Dairy Assistant & Calf Rearer jobs

Various - Nationwide, New Zealand /
Dairy Operations – Dairy /
Are you a Dairy Assistant looking to progress your skills on another farm?  Are you curious about other farm systems?  Or are you considering changing your career?  Would a fixed-term role as a Calf Rearer suit you over the winter months? Trade in the 9-5 for a fulfilling life working out in nature, with animals, and being part of a close-knit team.
At Pāmu, the way that we farm the land matters.  Taking good care of the animals in our care matters.  Providing honest, safe and well-paid work to our employees matters.  Having a roster that gives you work-life balance matters.
In advance of our busy season, we are looking for Dairy Assistants (mostly permanent but some fixed term) and fixed term Calf Rearers who are passionate about giving their best and being well-rewarded for it.  Pāmu offers various rosters (such as 6/2, 6/3, 5/2, etc.) so you can have good work-life balance.  You’ll be able to take pride in your herd and will keep them healthy, happy and productive.  Working outside as a part of a team, you’ll learn about animal welfare, perform general farm maintenance duties, bring the cows in for milking, and shift cows and young stock.
What does it take to be a DA?  You’ll take pride in a job well done.  You’ll love being outside and working with your hands.  We farm in all seasons, hot, dry, windy, rainy – you’ll be adaptable and not afraid of a little bad weather.
If you're interested in a fixed term Calf Rearing role, we'd love for you to have experience, but we're also happy to train you. The biggest thing you need is empathy, patience, and an affinity for calves.

If you’re looking to change careers but worry about the fact that you’ve never worked with animals before, don’t be!  We have DAs who were afraid of large animals before working with us.  If you’re willing to learn and give it a go, you’ll see that our cows have their own unique personalities and you’ll quickly develop close relationships with them.  Our farm staff are happy to train motivated people who are ready to get stuck in.
Pāmu has farms from the top of the north to the bottom of the south and we anticipate that roles will be available all throughout New Zealand.  You’ll be able to tell us where in the country you want to live and whether you can relocate when you apply.
Key Skills / Educational Requirements
We’re looking for experienced Dairy Assistants who are ambitious and eager to learn by working on a new property.  You’ll be motivated to develop your skills and will be willing to share your knowledge with others.
We’ll also consider people looking to change careers.  Our successful career changers have been house movers, chefs, retail workers, people managers, metal fabricators, miners, computer technicians – you name it, we’ve got ‘em.  If you’re not afraid to get in and work on some of the most beautiful farms in New Zealand, you should seriously consider a career in farming.
Our DAs receive a competitive salary plus benefits such as health insurance, death and permanent disablement insurance, a 3-4% Kiwisaver contribution, and most roles come with a warm, safe house.  We also provide all of your Personal Protective Equipment from day one. Calf Rearers drive in/drive out to work.
Click on Apply Now and let us know a bit more about you!  If you’re uploading your CV from a mobile phone, save it to your file folder on your phone first, as sometimes the dropbox or google docs option doesn’t work very well.
To be considered, apply before 19th June 2020.  If you have any questions, email Nancy Ford at fordn@landcorp.co.nz
Pāmu provides a safe workplace and the successful applicant will be required to pass a drug and alcohol test and undergo a criminal background check prior to being appointed.

To be eligible for this role, you must be available for an in-person interview and have unrestricted legal rights to work in New Zealand.
