The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated Head Shepherd to join our team at Meringa Station.  Our Stock Manager and Farm Manager will work closely and support you in your development for a successful career in agriculture.
This role will take on day-to-day responsibilities of stock and general work, as well as supporting other team members.
 
The role sits under the guidance of a supportive Farm Manager who encourages career development and offers a variety of responsibilities. 
 
The Farm
Meringa Station is a 1,500 effective ha rolling hill property, located 22 km from Taumarunui. It is primarily a lamb finishing property, carrying 17,000 su. 
 
It has excellent access, with well-established tracking throughout, Stock water is reticulated water, troughs, or dams.
 
Producing 8,800 kg of pasture DM/ha/yr and running 16,000 stock units (approx. 9,000 sheep and 7,000 Beef cattle) across a 1,492ha effective platform.
 
Most of the farm is lamb finishing, despite just 33% of the property being cultivatable and 41% moderate hill country.
 
Continuously improving the environment has always been a high priority, working to improve and protect the natural environment on the farm, with significant stream fencing and riparian planting, as well as a large area of QEII and forestry planting.
 
About You
You will be a passionate, experienced Head or Senior Shepherd with a can-do attitude, strong work ethic looking for a new challenge.
 
You will need to have:
·              Proven experience, with demonstrable and recurring success in a similar shepherding role
·              Good stock sense and at least three to four genuine working dogs
·              Commitment and a first-class attitude to health & safety
·              Possess excellent communication skills
·              Enjoy working in a team environment
·              A full and current NZ driver’s license
