The Opportunity
 
We have a Dairy Production Manager (2IC) role available at Bassets Dairy, this is a unique opportunity to work at an award-winning dairy farm with a high performing team and experience what makes Bassets a standout property
 
This is an opportunity for an experienced 2IC or are you a confident DA/3IC looking to take that next step.
 
You will work with a Farm Manager who encourages everyone to bring their ideas to the table.   You will help to manage the team daily with planning, pasture management, farm maintenance, milking, fencing, feeding out and general stock work.
 
You will also relieve the Farm Manager when they are on leave, as a team lead, you’ll confidently delegate work and carry on your own work independently and keep the farm running effectively and efficiently. 
 
The Farm
 
Located 15km from Westport, Bassets is a 458-ha property, milking approximately 1060 cows through a modern 60 bail rotary with ACR’s and MilkHub. Currently operating a 6 and 2 roster.
 
Excellent schooling options nearby. Friendly and supportive local community with school bus and easy access to a wide range of recreational activities.
 
About You
 
You’ll be good at planning and will have a strong understanding of dairy operations.  With the support of the Farm Manager, you’ll help to identify areas where process improvements can be made. 
 
For the right person, this could be your next step up, so while leadership experience is preferred, it’s a nice to have.
 
You will also have:
·       Experience in grazing, pasture management, animal health and feed budgeting
·       A commitment to individual and team development
·       Sound knowledge of current NZ dairy farming practices
·       Pasture management and feed planning skills
·       High standards of animal welfare and commitment to health and safety
·       Self-motivation and initiative
A can-do attitude and good communication skills
·       Ideally you will have experience driving farm machinery/tractors
