Stock Manager - Waikite Farm
Bay of Plenty - Rotorua - Waikite Valley
Livestock Operations – Livestock
We’re looking for a confident Stock Manager for Waikite Farm (Rotorua), a 1016 ha livestock farm that has a diverse mix of enterprises, including Simmental cattle stud and Pāmu’s award-winning Texel, FocusPrimeTM terminal sheep studs.
This farm has a breeding programme that supplies sires to Pāmu commercial farms as well as external farming clients so an understanding of genetics is preferred. However, if you have the technical skills we’re looking for and would like to learn more about breeding genetics, we’re happy to upskill our successful candidate. You’ll work alongside a passionate and capable manager who’ll be a strong support as you get up to speed.
You’ll enjoy mentoring and motivating others and have a demonstrated track record of developing your own technical skills as well as the skills of your staff. You’ll be inquisitive, self-directed, and be open to new ways of thinking. You’ll know what’s expected of you on a day to day basis and will be able to deliver operationally.
What does this role look like for you? You’ll have the day to day responsibilities of a stock manager (organising day to day activities on the farm), including leading and developing an enthusiastic team. You’ll help host meetings on-farm with external stakeholders, Wellington staff, etc. which will give you an amazing opportunity to learn and develop expertise in the genetics farming environment and beyond. You’ll have a passion for tech and innovation and see how their application benefits farming as well as the resilience required to implement, experiment, and adapt on-farm when the time comes.
There is a bit more record keeping that is required as part of the genetics process, so attention to detail is a must for our successful candidate. Exposure to the latest farm management software Farmax/FarmIQ and data entry/management would be a plus, however, we’re happy to train the right candidate.
The Waikite Farm is located just 25 minutes south of Rotorua in the Waikite Valley.
