Exciting opportunity to work in a purpose-built facility for calving, just a short drive from Taupō.
 
The Opportunity
We are seeking Calf Rearers to assist our team at our purpose-built calf rearing facility – Exeter for the Autumn.  You will be required to help on a fixed term basis during the calving season, which begins on 15 March 2024 and ends on the 18 June 2024.
 
Your day-to-day activities may consist of, feeding calves, general hygiene, picking up calves, administering animal health treatments and processing calves through the cattle yards.
 
Exeter is at the forefront of Pāmu’s non replacement calf strategy reducing the amount of surplus calves on our pastoral farms. This also aligns with our dairy beef strategy as we will be supplying our livestock farms.
 
The Farm
Located only 15 minutes from central Taupo, Exeter Calf Rearing aims to rear 1400 calves this autumn. Exeter is 84 effective ha with brand new infrastructure. Our purpose-built shed can hold up to 720 calves at a time. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to make large scale calf rearing enjoyable and efficient for staff.
 
About You
This role can be physically demanding so stamina and fitness are essential in this role. You must be able to lift 20kg.
 
What you need:
·         An exceptional attitude to health and safety and animal welfare
·         A good eye for detail and a willingness to learn
·         To be punctual and reliable
·         The ability to work unsupervised
·         No prior experience needed but at least 1 year would be preferred
 
This position can be catered to parents with young children, with flexible hours and rostered days on and could potentially extend out to spring calf rearing depending on staffing requirements. . There is no accommodation onsite so reliable transport is required.
