Forestry & Horticulture Specialist - Wellington CBD

Wellington, New Zealand /
Forestry and Horticulture – Forestry and Horticulture /
Permanent - Off Farm
If you’re a forestry pro who’s passionate about land use and putting the right species onto the right bit of land, and if you would love to use your horticulture expertise to grow our portfolio of horticulture crops, this is an opportunity you won’t want to pass up.

We think this is the best Forestry role available in New Zealand.  Located in our corporate office in Wellington, our Forestry and Horticulture Specialist will visit our farms nationwide and advise on the integration of forestry into our farming footprint.  We’re about putting trees on farms, not having farms of trees.  You’ll excel at evaluating our properties and advising on if/where we should land to forestry as well as understanding management priorities on the existing stands.

The crops we’re looking for?  You’ll be working closely with our forestry adviser to provide us with that guidance.  It could be pines, redwoods, natives on our forestry land or horticulture options, such as our avocado orchard in Kerikeri, where the land allows. Drawing on your technical knowledge, you’ll come up with innovative ideas to help us use our land efficiently and profitably.

Diversity is the name of the game in this role.  You’ll evaluate big stands, small stands, young stands, old stands.  You’ll be assessing land on dairy farms, livestock farms, and evaluating land for horticulture crops on all of our farms.

Working cooperatively in a small, close knit team, you’ll turn your hand to building relationships with the farm teams and writing business cases as well as providing robust reporting to track how we’re performing and identifying opportunities that we can explore.

We offer a competitive remuneration package that includes insurance and opportunities for training/upskilling in our progressive farming organisation.  This role is located in Wellington so that your interactions with our other Farm Specialists and portfolio groups (Dairy, Livestock, Forestry, and Environment & Technology) are easily facilitated.  We provide relocation assistance if you're successful for the role but live out of the area. You’ll travel out to our farm locations regularly.
