The Director, Business Development will set strategic direction, oversee and lead all business development activities and team.  The candidate will work directly with large, matrix organizations such as input providers and seed companies to deliver an excellent customer experience by managing teams that will train and advise on our product platform.  Pattern’s product provides soil insights and visibility of harmful pathogens so growers can proactively plan for the next season and crops can reach their full potential. Pattern Ag is looking for a mission aligned and motivated candidate to help us scale our product to many growers business partners and growers. As Director you will be responsible for building/growing relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers inside these companies in order to develop long-term business partnerships to adopt our product as a key part of their value proposition to growers.  Additionally, you will work cross-functionally with our internal field sales and service, product and science teams to help shape the direction of our research and development and customer experience.  This position reports directly to the VP, Sales.


    • Ownership over defining strategic direction with all business development accounts
    • Build and manage a high performing business development team
    • Quickly identify company key partnership targets, stakeholders, build trust and communicate the value proposition in each strategic account
    • Builds and owns the business development sales planUnderstands and can clearly communicate the product and how it will deliver an extra layer of value to each account
    • Ensure customer satisfaction through a relentless focus on understanding the account problem, and integrating our solutions
    • Collaborate with internal field sales & service, product and science teams to inform product discovery and development

Required Experience

    • BS degree, preferably in Agriculture or a related field
    • 10+ years of successful selling to or working with enterprise level customers in the field of Agriculture
    • 5+ years of people management experience
    • Demonstrated success building and executing business partnerships/agreements with matrixed, strategic accounts
    • Demonstrated success selling new technologyFarming experience is a plus, but not required
    • Interest in, and experience working alongside product and science teams to help inform product development and discovery
