At Pavement Coffeehouse, a Barista is someone who is passionate about hospitality, the craft and care that goes into preparing hand made food & drink, and nourishing relationships in the communities that we serve. Baristas create memorable experiences through connecting and building relationships with the people they interact with and are not afraid to jump on the food line to help out a team member in need.

You will

    • Greet customers with a timely and friendly greeting as they enter the shop.
    • Receive in store customer orders and take cash or credit payments in accordance with cash handling procedures.
    • Operate cash register, espresso machine, batch brewer, coffee grinders, and hot water towers. 
    • Prepare and serve all espresso bar beverages according to beverage recipes and training standards. 
    • Be knowledgeable about tasting and describing coffee, seed to cup, coffee brewing and extraction. 
    • Ensure espresso and batch brewed coffee is “dialed in” and brewed according to recipe.
    • Taste to ensure quality by making small grind adjustments. 
    • Clean and maintain espresso bar station and batch brewing stations.
    • Actively prepare coffee stations for upcoming shifts by cleaning, stocking, and prepping.
    • Duties include assisting in counter responsibilities as needed according to shift lead and needs of the day. 
    • Maintain consistent time, attendance, and punctuality. 
    • Performs other related duties as assigned
    • Requires arrival to shifts as early as 6:30am and shifts may require to you work as late as 9pm based on location

    • Basic math & computer skills

Compensation

    • Starting at $15.50 per hour
    • Annul raises ($.60) on the anniversary date of hire.
    • Tips between $4-$9 per hour
    • Total Compensation, including tips: $19.50- $24.50
Our Barista positions are dynamic roles. Below are some of the physical demands the job will make of you.
• Ability to stand and walk for longs period of time. You'll be on your feet for most of the day moving between stations & attending to the cafe
• Use of hands to reach, grip & perform specific movements. You'll use your hands to operate a register, handle knives to cut bagels, spread cream cheeses, and serve coffee & tea (among other responsibilities)
• Squat, bend, and reach for items below your waist and above your shoulders. For example, you will need to bend down into a fridge to grab product, or reach above to grab cups
• Ability to push/pull, lift/carry or move up to 50 pounds. For example, you'll handle gallons of milk, daily food orders, change trashes and carry dishes
• Climbing stairs and ladders. You may need to use a step ladder to reach something or navigate up & down stairs to access storage areas.
• Ability to listen and speak. You’re listening and speaking with customers to take and fill orders, and give them direction on the experiences we create
