We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead the development and scaling of PayZen’s FinTech software solutions in our San Francisco office. We work a hybrid schedule, onsite 3 days per week.  As the Vice President of Engineering, you will be pivotal in shaping PayZen’s product's future and driving the company’s growth trajectory.

What you will do

    • Lead and grow the engineering team in our San Francisco office, setting up the team for success in a microservices environment, operating on Kubernetes.  
    • Collaborate with the existing overseas engineering team to ensure consistency in the product development processes.
    • Drive development, testing, and deployment of robust, scalable software solutions in JavaScript, focusing on Node.js and React.
    • Create and oversee the entire software development lifecycle, ensuring adherence to best practices and high-quality standards. 
    • Empower the engineering team to excel in their roles while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and customer focus.
    • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, DevOps, and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with company goals.
    • Spearhead innovative strategies to enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability while managing multiple cross-functional projects, ensuring efficient and effective execution.
    • Act as a technical mentor and coach to a team of engineers of varying skills and experience.
    • Create high-level systems, subsystems, and services with clearly defined interfaces, data models, and documentation.
    • Adopt, refine, and operate various solutions, open-source and commercial software such as Amazon  AWS.  
    • Follow emerging trends in cloud, serverless technologies, machine learning, and data science.
    • Create and maintain a technology roadmap to handle product development and customer needs while reducing tech debt.
    • Collaborate closely with other teams and support various financial, budgeting, and cost justifications. Ensure efficiency in costs related to operating needs, licenses, staff, and training needs.

What you will bring

    • 6+ years of development experience in JavaScript, specifically with expertise in Node.js and React.
    • At least 3 years of experience managing and building high-performing engineering teams, including experience setting up new teams or offices.
    • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent is preferred. MBA is a nice to have.
    • Strong experience in microservices architectures and Kubernetes.
    • Proven ability to lead large-scale technical projects and initiatives.
    • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS, GCP, or Azure.
    • Strong understanding of web technologies, databases, and networking concepts.
    • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment is highly desirable.
    • Excellet problem-solving, strategic thinking, and leadership skills.
    • Demonstrated success building new processes from scratch and transforming processes, data, systems, and practices in complex, global, multi-stakeholder environments.
    • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with management.
