Pendulum® is on a mission to help people improve physical and mental health by creating a new category of products that target the microbiome. We are researching, developing and commercializing a novel class of rationally-designed Live Synbiotics™ (probiotics + prebiotics) that have demonstrated clinical efficacy to treat conditions like metabolic syndrome, inflammation and neurodegeneration.
Pendulum has created proprietary pipelines to build a unique discovery platform that identifies key, novel bacterial strains and the prebiotics that feed them.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Director, HR Operations to lead all of HR operations at our fast growing company. The perfect leader is motivated by seeing people and teams perform at their best and works to ensure all operations and systems at the company enable teams across the company to thrive. You will also enjoy learning from and working across a diverse, cross-collaborative team of lab scientists, engineers, manufacturing, and marketing. You will create, implement, and manage the processes and systems encompassing all aspects of progressive and innovative People management and leadership. You will be a broad-based, hands-on leader with a track record of driving best practices throughout the organization - driving accountability into every aspect of the People function and the business it supports.  

What You'll Do:

    • Be on-site at our 2 locations in San Francisco at least 4 days a week.
    • Be part of the leadership team, creating workforce initiatives to support and promote business strategy
    • Oversee, develop and enhance core People functions, learning and development, compensation and benefits, employee engagement, performance management, employment law compliance, HRIS systems, etc.
    • Participate in the development of the company’s plans and programs, particularly from the perspective of the impact on people
    • Establish credibility and trust throughout the company; serve as an effective listener, champion and problem solver
    • Ensure Pendulum’s mission and values are upheld
    • Manage team responsible for HR Operations 
    • Experience with compensation reviews/banding 
    • Stay abreast of HR and legal developments.  Ensure compliance and implement appropriate procedures accordingly.  Liaise with internal and external legal counsel as needed on employment-related matters

Knowledge Requirements:

    • 10+ years experience in HR, ideally in fast-growing startup environments
    • 10+ years experience of management experience
    • Experience with HR operations systems, including ADP Workforce Now, Ubiquity, Google Drive, Health Equity, Lever
    • Experience with both exempt and non-exempt, shift-based employeesDriven, roll up your sleeves, results-driven person who is equally kind, open, inclusive and caring.
    • Proven track record of success at high growth companies
    • Extensive experience in all aspects of HR including but not limited to: HRIS, employee policies, federal and state labor laws, benefits, compensation etc.
