Pendulum® is on a mission to help people improve physical and mental health by creating a new category of products that target the microbiome. We are researching, developing and commercializing a novel class of rationally-designed Live Synbiotics (probiotics + prebiotics) that have demonstrated clinical efficacy to treat conditions like metabolic syndrome, inflammation and neurodegeneration.

Pendulum has created proprietary pipelines to build a unique discovery platform that identifies key, novel bacterial strains and the prebiotics that feed them.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scientific Communications Manager/Sr. Manager to lead and execute our scientific communications strategies to effectively document and disseminate our research findings, enhance our brand reputation, and engage with key stakeholders including the scientific community, healthcare professionals, media, and consumers. We’re looking for an outstanding writer who can translate scientific data on the gut microbiome into publishable studies, white papers, presentations, posters, and consumer-facing educational content. This person will be facile at shifting between projects and audiences, all while maintaining scientific rigor and credibility.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, lean and collaborative environment. Iterations and group input will be familiar territory for this person. While we want someone who can think big, we also need someone who can be resourceful in how they approach execution. They should be both passionate and comfortable working with a young brand in its early stages of growth.

What You'll Do:

    • Develop and implement strategic scientific communications plans to effectively communicate the company's scientific achievements, research advancements, and product developments.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all scientific communication activities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and compliance with industry regulations and guidelines.
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including research and development, clinical, regulatory affairs, and marketing to gather scientific data and insights for communication purposes.
    • Lead the development of scientific content for various channels including clinical trial protocols, investigator brochures, scientific papers for publication, white papers, press releases, conference presentations, grants, website and social media content.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), scientific experts, and external partners to support scientific communication initiatives and foster collaborations.
    • Provide strategic counsel and support to senior management on scientific communication matters, including crisis communication and reputation management.
    • Stay abreast of scientific and industry trends, and competitor activities, to inform communication strategies and messaging.
    • Manage budgets, vendors, and agencies effectively to optimize resources and achieve communication objectives.

Knowledge Requirements:

    • Advanced degree (MS, PharmD, PhD, MD preferred) in a scientific discipline such as biology, biochemistry, nutritional sciences, or other related field.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in scientific communications, medical writing, or related roles within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare industry.
    • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful scientific communication strategies that drive engagement and support business objectives.
    • Strong understanding of scientific research methodologies, data interpretation, and publication processes.
    • Experience writing up study findings and successfully submitting for publication in leading scientific journals. 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex scientific information into clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences.
    • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including KOLs and scientific experts.
    • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving, decision-making and content creation.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with scientific communication tools and platforms.
