We are searching for a Technical Lead for Percona’s observability software and capabilities. The Technical Lead position is a multi-faceted role, focused on driving Percona’s reputation and exposure within the database ecosystem and ensuring that we remain at the forefront of this arena. As a dynamic, collaborative, and thriving company, this position is unique in that it offers a challenging yet rewarding environment. The Technical Lead is expected to wear “many hats'' including the ability to positively impact the product strategy and direction from a deliverability and functionality perspective.

This is a technical role with the primary focus being on deep technical knowledge and usability of PMM. However, it expands beyond PMM into other tooling and services for observability. Our Observability Technical Leads play a pivotal role in providing thought leadership and direction to other Global Services teams, customers, and the wider open-source community. This involves creating internal and public-facing content for knowledge sharing, technical guidance, contributions, influence on product strategy, and product evangelism. 

In order to achieve success in this role, you will work collaboratively with stakeholders from the Sales, Marketing, Global Services, Customer Success, Product Management, and Engineering teams to contribute to Percona’s Platform-focused goals.

What You Will Do:

    • Create technical content for the community and Percona subscribers to consume. Blogs, Whitepapers, Knowledge Base articles, webinars, and conference talks are all media types that may be used.
    • Support and assist in the continual improvement of Percona’s software quality and usability by participating in the product life cycle.
    • Provide direction and guidance on PMM (and broader where appropriate) software product strategy, including recommending and writing functional specifications for product enhancements, changes, or new software products as appropriate.
    • Contribute code recommendations in support of engineering efforts.
    • Follow the latest industry developments and stay up-to-date on corporate competitors.
    • Identify trends via industry research and related events, publications, and announcements; tracking individual contributors and their accomplishments.
    • Support the Percona field sales team on strategic, PMM-related opportunities.
    • Represent Percona, and deliver talks at strategically identified conferences throughout the year.
    • Provide support to our Global Services teams in relation to complex or escalated customer issues.

What You Have:

    • Expert-level knowledge of Percona’s Management and Monitoring product and related technologies.
    • Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, PromQL, MetricsQL.
    • Fluent written and spoken English communication skills.
    • Professional, customer service-oriented attitude.
    • Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial approach.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally under pressure.
    • Strong mentoring/coaching skills.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
    • Desire to travel internationally and speak at Percona Live and other conferences.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate with Management at Customers/Partners in an escalation ownership and management capacity.

What will make you stand out:

    • Experience with open source databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, MariaDB, Percona XtraDB Cluster.
    • Experience with Reverse Proxy techs such as HAProxy, ProxySQL.
    • Experience with a scripting language such as Python or Bash.
    • Experience with Container deployments (Docker, Podman).
    • Basic Knowledge of HTML + CSS.
    • Basic knowledge of GO language.
    • Familiarity with Cloud technologies, Kubernetes, and DBaaS.
    • Software development experience and source-level familiarity.
    • Ability to contribute code recommendations in support of the engineering efforts.
