The Staff Accountant is responsible for completing general ledger entries, system imports and exports, account reconciliations and activity analysis primarily focused on loan level mortgage and servicing transactions and other related functions as assigned. Must comply with all BSA/AML requirements as well as any mandatory changes. This role is full-time; non-exempt. This position has no supervisory responsibilities, and reports to the Accounting Manager.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate processing of any or all of the following:
- Reconcile and process loan level transactions for funding, purchases, warehouse bank transactions, security advances, and settlements, etc.
- Prepare daily and month end journal entries and accruals as assigned.
- Reconcile, research, and analyze warehouse bank transactions and cash as assigned.
- Reconcile, research, and analyze other balance sheet accounts.
- Review an analysis of assigned branch P&L’s.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
What You'll Bring To The Table:
- Accounting education required (AA, Intermediated Accounting courses), BA in Accounting preferred
- 1-3 year’s experience in an accountant position (preferably at a medium to large company)
- Mortgage industry knowledge a plus
- Experience with information management
- Must possess attention to detail and thoroughness
- Must be able to work collaboratively with various teams internally and externally
- Must possess advanced excel skills
- Experience with computerized accounting systems, proficiency with data imports/exports and manipulation/analysis as well as experience reconciling and analyzing general ledger accounts
- Ability to analyze and reconcile business transactions to determine appropriate accounting treatment and recognize issues and anomalies that require research or escalation
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to consistently produce accurate work
- Capability of handling and meeting deadlines, and prioritizing in fast-paced environment with a heavy volume of transactions
- Proficiency with computer systems including MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) at an intermediate to advanced level; Internet Browsers, and email functions required
- Knowledge of Loan Origination Systems and/or LPS/Black Night or other Mortgage Investor Accounting systems a plus
- Must be able to come to the San Diego Corporate Office 2x per week.
$60,000 - $70,000 a year
