Who You Are
 
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will assist our CFO and Senior Accountant with the successful completion of processing and managing the payroll for our employees across multiple states, ensuring accurate and timely compensation, financial planning and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will work closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure smooth financial operations. 
 
What You'll Do
‣ Leverage FP&A experience to support financial reporting and analysis, assist in payroll forecasting and budgeting, and provide insights into compensation trends and labor cost drivers across the organization.
‣ Process and calculate payroll for full-time employees and 1099 contractors across multiple states, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with each state's payroll tax laws, wage regulations, and reporting requirements.
‣ Apply appropriate federal, state, and local tax rates, deductions, and withholdings based on employees' work locations, including multi-state and local jurisdiction complexities.
‣ Ensure accurate and timely submission of payroll taxes across federal, state, and local agencies, for both employees and independent contractors.
‣ Prepare and file required tax documents such as quarterly filings, annual tax returns, and W-2/1099 forms, maintaining full compliance with payroll laws in multiple states.
‣ Monitor changes in state and local tax legislation and proactively implement necessary adjustments to payroll processes to maintain compliance.
‣ Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including tax forms (W-4, W-9), payment history, direct deposit information, and benefit-related deductions.
‣ Respond promptly to employee inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies, tax withholdings, and deductions, ensuring clear communication and issue resolution.
‣ Collaborate cross-functionally with HR and Finance teams to align payroll data with benefits administration, time-off tracking, and financial reporting.
‣ Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and data security in managing sensitive payroll and personnel information.
‣ Support internal and external audits by providing accurate payroll data, reconciliations, and documentation as needed.

 
What You'll Need
 
Qualifications 
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in accounting, finance, or related field
1+ year experience in accounting and payroll
Familiarity with payroll tax laws and withholding requirement in multiple states, including experience with both full-time employee and 1099 contractor payroll processing.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax codes, and the ability to apply them accurately in payroll processing.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
 Ability to keep all company-sensitive documents and systems secure.
 Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
$75,000 - $85,000 a year
Non-Negotiables:
·      Reside in or near the Maryland border - Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC
·      Be willing to travel to the CFO's home in Maryland on occasion to work together
