What we are looking for:
Portoro is seeking a seasoned Controller with a proven track record of leading accounting functions within fast-paced and growing organizations. The ideal candidate will take full ownership of day-to-day accounting operations for both our property portfolios and corporate financials. As a senior leader, you will oversee the end-to-end accounting cycle, from monthly close processes to ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements. With deep expertise in GAAP, particularly in revenue recognition (ASC 606), trust accounting, M&A accounting, and complex long-term liabilities, you will drive accuracy, efficiency, and process improvements across the finance function. This role offers the opportunity to influence and develop scalable accounting processes, while partnering with key stakeholders across the organization to support the company's growth.

What you’ll do:
● Oversee and expand the accounting team, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all financial records, and managing the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
● Guide the accounting team on critical topics such as revenue recognition, accruals, reserves, and the proper treatment of general ledger transactions under GAAP, with a focus on ASC 606, trust accounting, M&A accounting, and long-term liabilities.
● Ensure the accounting close cycle is efficient and timely, implementing clear timelines and driving adherence.
● Continuously improve the accounting reconciliation process and other key finance functions, introducing best practices to streamline operations and scale for growth.
● Establish and maintain internal controls, ensuring compliance and operational effectiveness. Prepare the organization for external audits through rigorous documentation and audit readiness practices.
● Support banking relationships, manage cash flow, and contribute to financial planning and analysis, ensuring robust financial health and liquidity.
● Collaborate with product development, operations, and other departments to implement scalable accounting systems and processes that support business initiatives.
● Lead and support various strategic and ad hoc projects, including acquisitions, process reengineering, and system implementations.

What you’ll bring:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s Degree or MBA preferred).
● 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior management or Controller role. Experience in real estate, property management, or a related industry that uses trust accounting is highly desirable. ● Active CPA or equivalent certification is required.
● Expertise in Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze large data sets and create financial models.
● Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a high-performing team. A strategic thinker with a proactive approach to solving complex accounting issues in a dynamic environment.
● In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, particularly ASC 606, with the ability to navigate complex accounting standards and transactions.
● Hands-on experience with audit preparations and the implementation of robust internal controls.
● Real estate, property management, or related industry experience is a significant plus but not required.
