The Sr. Director, Philanthropy will be responsible for directing a robust major gifts program and the oversight of PPLA’s capital and programmatic fundraising campaign including supervision of the Philanthropy team.  This position will manage a portfolio of donors for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with gifts in the 5 – 7 figure range, as well as multiple volunteer fundraising committees.  In executing these responsibilities, the Sr. Director, Philanthropy will partner with the Vice President, Development, the President and Chief Executive Officer, Board leadership, Campaign Committees, and other volunteers.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • Experience running programmatic and capital fundraising campaigns from multiple donor channels required
    • A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in relevant aspects of fundraising activities (annual, capital, major gifts, events, direct mail, planned giving, corporate and foundations) with emphasis on capital campaigns and major donors (gifts of $10,000+)
    • Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to senior staff and key stakeholders
    • Proven success in fundraising development for a mid-level nonprofit
    • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Los Angeles County
    • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, as required
    • Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising
    • Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with donors, prospects, volunteers, and peers across different levels of the organization

Design development strategy:

    • Work with the management team to identify funds needed and preferred funding targets
    • Oversight of major gifts and programmatic and capital fundraising campaign, including partnering with VP, Development and campaign consultant in feasibility study, launch of and day to day administration of a fundraising campaign
    • Maintain relationships with fundraising volunteers, board members, donors and Development staff, and with other agency staff, as required


    • Conduct research, prospecting, and application to multiple donor sources
    • Oversight of PPLA’s major gifts and fundraising campaign programs
    • Build a robust donor base through development and maintaining key long-term relationships with donors and prospects
    • Partner with Sr. Manager, Prospect Research in strategy, cultivation, and solicitation plans for donors at $10,000+
    • Manage and motivate Philanthropy Officers to successful donor-centric solicitations
    • Coordinate and manage volunteer fundraising committees in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major and campaign gifts
    • Carry a robust portfolio of donors with the ability to give 5 – 7 figure gifts through discovery, disqualification


    • Oversee written fundraising reports to fundraising leaders, board, Sr. Director, Development, and other designees as necessary
    • Attend and present at Development Committee quarterly meetings
    • Create successful funding proposals and reports as appropriate

Form and manage Philanthropy team:

    • Work with the VP, Development to form a cohesive fundraising team
    • Identify staffing needs for fundraising campaigns and ongoing development
    • Interview candidates and hire team members
    • Manage and mentor Philanthropy team to success
