Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Trainer, Adult Education with excellent communication and customer service skills to work in our Downtown Los Angeles Headquarters.  Facilitate PPLA’s external and internal training for the new Adult Education program serving Black communities, including the training and coaching of Health Promoters and facilitation of weekly meetings, outreach events, and monthly trainings.  Provide training in sexual and reproductive health, substance abuse prevention, and behavioral health topics.  Respond to requests for training of educators from other organizations.  This position will work collaboratively with the program manager on training and curricula development for the new program.  Coordinate the new program and support the Manager to ensure that program deliverables are met.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree with a sexuality education, social services, or health education background required
    • Master’s Degree in public health, education, or related field preferred
    • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in sexual health education, training, and working with teens required
    • Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health required, and of human rights and gender equality preferred
    • Ability to facilitate sexual health, substance use prevention, and health education in community based settings
    • Program coordination experience preferred
    • Organizational and program coordination and/or oversight experience
    • Comfort talking about sexuality, relationships, abortion, contraception, and STIs
    • Ability and willingness to travel to schools, agencies, and community meetings
    • Availability to work some evenings and weekends
    • Ability to meet Los Angeles County background check requirements via Live Scan fingerprint clearance
    • Must supply documentation of completed negative TB screen within 60 days prior to start

About the position:

    • Master competencies in delivering PPLA’s educational curricula and training health promoters to teach curricula
    • Train and coach 2+ health promoters in education and outreach methods and facilitation skills
    • Collaborate with manager to develop instruments for needs assessments and/or evaluation methods
    • Support parent education component in English at Wellbeing Center Schools for the DPH Project
    • Implement program plans for reaching determined goals and objectives
    • Support revision of health promoter training content according to relevant laws, requirements, and education needs
    • Support manager in development of new curricula and/or modifications of current curricula that provides education to support health equity of Black communities
    • Ensure that the adult education curricula is updated regularly and kept accurate
    • Develop strategies for outreach and engagement efforts
    • Provide training and professional development in reproductive health
    • Train new health promoters and/or other agencies in adult education curricula, as needed
    • Serve as agency resource for PPLA staff on matters related to adult and parent sexual health education, especially in regard to health equity of Black communities
    • Maintain professional relationship with all PPLA departments and partners
    • Assist manager and/or VP of Education in the writing of grants, reports to funders, etc.
    • Participate in all staff meetings and events, team builders, and retreats
    • Work closely with the Manager, Adult Education to clear program direction and monitor program progress
    • Ensure that overall Agency priorities are kept in perspective in program delivery and implementation
    • Become knowledgeable of all PPLA standards and policies
    • Represent PPLA in the community by developing and maintaining relationships with schools, community-based organizations, and other collaborations
    • Collect, organize, and input outreach data to ensure reports required for foundations and donors, PPLA Board and the Public Affairs, and Community Education Department are complete
    • Maintain necessary knowledge and skills to provide leadership to programs and staying current on recent studies on sexuality, sexual health, PPLA services, teen pregnancy, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, healthy relationships, reproductive rights, as well as educational approaches to teens, parents, and communities, including LGBT teens and communities
    • Serve as a trainer, facilitator, presenter, and spokesperson for Community Education and support external relationships with media, entertainment stakeholders, donors, foundations, and/or elected officials
    • Work in collaboration with other Community Education programs and other PPLA departments
