Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Director of Security with excellent customer service and management skills to work in our Downtown Los Angeles Headquarters.  Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director of Security develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive agency-wide security program which seeks to ensure the safety and security of agency employees, clients, and assets.  Responsible for the oversight and direction of all day-to-day operations of the Security Department and provides direct supervisory oversight of the Security Department staff.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent professional experience required; Master’s degree preferred
    • At least five (5) years in a public safety, security and/or emergency management related field with one (1) year of program management experience
    • At least three (3) years management experience required
    • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) preferred
    • Experience with vendor management, conducting RFPS and the procurement process is preferred
    • Dynamic experience in crisis and incident response, with a focus on ability to maintain a calm demeanor and continued productivity and efficiency in high-pressure settings
    • Ability to establish relationships and work with law enforcement agencies
    • Demonstrated strong knowledge of physical and electronic surveillance security equipment and systems, access control systems, CCTV equipment
    • Must have a current California Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation at all times
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends and 24-hour response for security emergencies, if necessary
    • Must be willing to travel to all Agency sites throughout LA County at all times with no advance notice
    • Must be able to meet Los Angeles County background check requirements via Live Scan fingerprint clearance
    • Excellent public speaking skills, proven ability to prepare and present training topics and instill confidence in the information and training provided
    • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred

About the position:

    • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental programs regarding personnel security, information security, physical security, and emergency preparedness planning
    • Establish and maintain relationships with local law enforcement agencies for each health center location
    • Responsible for 24-hour response system for security emergencies
    • Partner with IT to support Cyber Security efforts
    • Develop and execute the security response(s) appropriate for various security related situations
    • Plan security for events, visiting VIPs, and other activities which may include partnering with and overseeing contract/consulting security services through a comprehensive advance survey and threat assessment
    • Coordinate and manage executive staff home security
    • Understand the risks to the organization and staff, including business travel and domestic and foreign operations; select and implement appropriate controls
    • Act as subject matter expert in event planning to ensure access control, asset protection, confidentiality, and other security matters are adequately addressed through a written plan accepted by the stakeholders
    • Manage and oversee day to day schedule of security staff and contractors and make changes to schedule as necessary
    • Manage parking enforcement measures and policies for various PPLA locations, as needed
    • Assist the COO in preparing and managing the annual department operating budget. Ensure that staffing costs are within targeted budget
    • Responsible for the training of security/emergency related issues for New Hire Orientation, new staff and annual trainings, as needed
    • Responsible for the Security educational materials which include, but are not limited to, the Security Manual
    • Responsible for the Agency’s comprehensive security systems (i.e. camera, access, control, identification badging system)
    • Responsible for the security incidents reporting to PPFA and oversight of the internal security incident reporting system
    • Manage all aspects of emergency preparedness contracts with the County of Los Angeles, State of California, and others
    • Address any concerns with police departments regarding the safety of PPLA facilities or events
    • Serve as the lead representative on behalf of PPLA for criminal prosecutions in a court of law, as necessary
    • Act as a liaison to community organizations, local and state government as well as other healthcare entities in areas of disaster preparedness
    • Support risk and quality management by proactively communicating identified risks to supervisor in order to minimize risk when possible
    • Comply with PPLA’s Code of Conduct and maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations
    • Maintain, document, and conduct analysis of security incident data. Prepare security data statistical reports for Senior Leadership Team
    • Prepare and update the Agency’s Security Management Plan on an annual basis or as needed
    • Responsible for PPLA’s mass notification system
