Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Director, Institutional Giving is responsible for the organization, management, and generation of funds for Planned Parenthood Los Angeles’s foundation, corporate, and government gift program, including prospecting, researching, and writing proposals, and extensive report writing.  This is a revenue-generating position responsible for raising $2 - $3m annually.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent relevant work experience
    • Minimum of eight (8) years of successful grant writing solicitations (must have experience writing and reporting government entities) within health care, social service, or similar nonprofit organization
    • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience managing staff
    • Superlative writing ability
    • Knowledge of and experience with project management and Raiser’s Edge
    • Strong administrative, organizational, budgeting, and management abilities
    • Ability to understand and develop program design, goals, and objectives
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals, including foundation, individual, government, and corporate funders and program staff
    • Reliable and flexible means of transportation and a willingness to travel throughout Los Angeles County as needed

About the position:

    • At the direction of the Vice President, manage the organizational structure of the Institutional Giving program
    • Conduct research to identify potential grant opportunities from existing funders, as well as new prospects
    • Establish a grants calendar focused on mission-aligned foundation, corporate, and government partners with interest in PPLA’s programs and services
    • Project, track, and report to the Senior Director, Development monthly progress and projections toward all Institutional Giving program goals
    • Work with Patient Services, Community Education, Human Resources, Finance, and Public Affairs departments to develop compelling program narratives and goals that meet funder requirements
    • Gather, analyze, and synthesize finance reports and budgetary information from Finance Department to use in grant proposals and reports
    • Track and report on restricted grant funds in partnership with Finance Department
    • Closely monitor progress of all grant requests after they have been submitted. Advise and support Vice President, Development in necessary cultivation and stewardship activities
    • Ensure that grant proposals and contracts are reviewed by Senior Staff and signed by the President/CEO
    • Prepare all progress and final reports to funders
    • Complete special writing assignments as needed
    • Supervise the Manager, Institutional Giving
