The Director of Research and Virtual Care (DRVC) is a key leadership position within the Health Services Department, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Health Services. This role is responsible for overseeing all research initiatives and virtual care operations across Planned Parenthood Association of Utah (PPAU). The DRVC provides strategic and operational leadership for research studies, telehealth services, the Centralized Follow-Up (CFU) team, and the Pills by Mail program. This position also plays a key role in ongoing support and optimization of the Epic electronic health record system post-implementation and serves as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders, including the BetterHealth governance committee. 

Essential Job Functions:


    • Research Oversight & Expansion
    • Manage and oversee ongoing research studies, ensuring full staff compliance with protocols and ethical standards.
    • Monitor and maintain the required research certifications (e.g., CITI) for all participating staff.
    • Conduct regular check-ins with Health Center Managers and Lead Clinical Assistants to ensure accountability and adherence to research protocols.
    • Implement and oversee studies such as MORE and RAPPEL in alignment with applicable regulations and guidance.
    • Serve as PPAU’s primary point of contact for the Planned Parenthood Research Network (PPRN) and related communications.
    • In collaboration with the Senior Director of Health Services and the Chief Medical Officer identify and evaluate new research partnership opportunities, including feasibility assessments.

      Virtual Care and Telehealth
    • Lead the strategic growth and daily operations of PPAU’s telehealth program.
    • Design and implement workflow changes to improve care access and quality via virtual platforms.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, including Marketing, to promote and update telehealth offerings.
    • Facilitate monthly telehealth meetings and hold staff accountable for performance and engagement.
    • Oversee training for Epic-based telehealth services and related workflows.

    • Centralized Follow-Up (CFU) & Pills by Mail
    • Supervise the CFU team, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with protocols.
    • Evaluate and implement process improvements to optimize CFU effectiveness.
    • Oversee the Pills by Mail program, coordinating changes with relevant departments to ensure service efficiency and quality.

    • Epic Electronic Health Record Operational Support
    • Serve as PPAU’s internal lead for Epic-related support, including management of Jira helpdesk requests.
    • Represent PPAU on the BetterHealth governance committee, helping to shape system-wide decisions and improvements.

    • Personnel Management and Clinic Operations Support
    • Directly manage the Lead Telehealth Clinician and Lead Clinical Assistant, providing ongoing coaching, performance management, and development support.
    • Manage staff performance across research, telehealth, CFU, and Pills by Mail operations.
    • In collaboration with the CHRO and Health Services leadership, recommend corrective actions when needed.
    • Ensure alignment and communication of all personnel actions across the Health Services team.
    • Provide support to health center operations and clinic management as needed, including staffing coverage, workflow troubleshooting, and implementation of new processes to ensure seamless patient care.
    •  Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies, related to clinical operations and patient care.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned or requested to support departmental and organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing or Public Health or other health care or business-related degree and/or at least 3 years of experience in management in health care setting.
    • Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare or clinical operations including direct supervision of staff.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical research protocols, regulatory compliance, and ethical standards.
    • Understanding of telehealth service delivery models and virtual care platforms.
    • Familiarity with Epic or similar electronic health record (EHR) systems.
$78,000 - $83,000 a year

The starting pay for this position is $78,000 - $83,000 annual DOE.
