PPCCC is a trusted provider of high-quality, affordable reproductive health care along California’s Central Coast. Each year, PPCCC provides 35,000 people on the central coast with health care services; including sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, vasectomies, and safe and legal abortion care at our six health center locations. PPCCC also provides comprehensive sexuality education programs to help adults and teens make healthy decisions, prevent unintended pregnancies, and avoid sexually transmitted infection.
 

JOB SUMMARY:    
The non-physician advanced practice Lead clinician will work closely with the Associate Medical Director to carry out administrative and training tasks aimed at advancing the development of clinicians in the Santa Maria health center.

They will work in collaboration with all healthcare team members to provide quality reproductive health care to Planned Parenthood patients following PPCCC medical standards and guidelines.

Lead Clinicians will model professional behaviors and lead educational initiatives for healthcare team members, including their clinical colleagues. Responsibilities include participation in a team approach to patient care by working cooperatively with others to achieve productivity standards while providing exceptional customer service and also leadership in their designated clinics with respect to clinician needs.

Clinical responsibilities of the position include advanced sexual and reproductive health care services, consistent with prior Clinician III performance, and acting as a first-line consultant for clinicians in their region. 
  
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
·             Provision and adherence to all Planned Parenthood California Central Coast (PPCCC) written medical protocols which incorporate all State, Federal, PPFA and PPCCC medical practice guidelines and which are approved by the Medical Director and President/CEO.
·             Adhere to PPCCC policies and procedures concerning OSHA, CLIA, occurrence reporting, and all other staff and patient safety issues.
·             Utilize the “SOAP” format for completing medical examination forms, including all appropriate medical findings and recommendations.
·             Demonstrate competency in, but not limited to, the following; peer review, quality assurance audits, and laboratory proficiency testing.
·             Participate in required staff meetings, conference calls, and mandatory all-staff training.
·             Accurately perform and document comprehensive and focused review of medical history, review of systems, physical exams, ordering/performing/interpreting of appropriate laboratory tests.
·             Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all medications listed on the PPCCC formulary that are dispensed in-house or prescribed for all PPCCC medical services.
·             Refer patients with abnormal conditions appropriately per PPCCC protocols.
·             Adherence to abnormal clinical finding protocols listed in PPCCC’s Medical Standards and Guidelines as they relate to timing and types of notifications.
·             Abide by PPCCC’s Compliance, Risk, and Quality Management Program, including adhering to the Standards of Conduct and participating in ongoing training regarding billing and coding for services.
·             Must comply with the Clinical Services goal of providing excellent customer service by talking with patients in a caring manner and delivering services in an unbiased and non-judgmental manner.
·             Serves as a clinical resource for HCAs, RNs, and clinician colleagues within their scope of practice including but not limited to Clinician I & II’s. Responsibilities will include medical consults, leading emergency drills and training, and performing peer audits as directed by the Associate Medical Director and/or Medical Director.
·             Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director and/or Senior Director of Medical Services or designee.
 
TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
 The Lead Clinician will be assigned to a health center that they will primarily work at. On occasions, the lead clinicians will be asked to to travel other health centers in their region. The Lead clinicians will also demonstrate the following responsibilities:
·             Act as a New Hire Family Planning Clinician Trainer
·             In collaboration with the Associate Medical Director, develop training and remediation plans for medical staff in their region.
·             Under the direction of the Associate Medical Director, provides additional specialty skill training within their scope of practice or specialty project affiliate training.
 
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
·             Lead Clinicians will conduct administrative tasks commensurate with their leadership roles. Lead Clinicians will have 8 hours/week of admi time designated for completion of tasks.
·             Participate in regularly scheduled check-ins w/ Associate Medical Director
·             Complete Annual Clinician Peer reviews for the PPCCC affiliate.
·             Coordinate additional clinician audits at the direction of the Associate Medical Director and perform ongoing assessments as needed
·             Review clinical schedules and participate in new hire interviews.

·             Ability to role model to clinician colleagues’ professional behaviors and alignment with PPCCC’s mission.
·             Experience as a Clinician III (IUD retrieval missing strings, endometrial biopsy, limited ultrasound for gestational dating, treatment of molluscum contagious and genital warts, IUD insertion, Nexplanon insertion and removal).
·             Ability to provide feedback to staff in a constructive manner resulting in motivation for change.
·             Ability to mentor and supervise the medical quality of clinicians and non-clinician support staff members of their medical team.
·             Ability to relate to patients of all genders with diverse backgrounds in a professional and competent manner.
·             Ability to demonstrate empathy to patients accessing sensitive health care services.
·             Ability to perform lab screening and vital assessment.
·             Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
·             English/Spanish bilingual skills desirable.
·             Must possess excellent communication skills and deliver care in a warm and caring manner.
·             Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
·             Ability to physically assist a patient in distress.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
·             3-5 years of Reproductive Health experience.
·             RN license valid in California (Physician Assistant exempt).
·             Nurse Practitioner or Clinician training and subsequent experience in reproductive health care.
·             Completion of approved Family Planning Nurse Practitioner, Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwifery or Physician Assistant program.
·             Current California license as Advanced Nurse Practitioner; Nurse Midwife or Physician Assistant.
·             Certification for advanced practice through a nationally recognized organization.
·             Current California Furnishing Number, DEA number optional.
·             Current CPR (BLS) certification.
Planned Parenthood California Central Coast’s (PPCCC’s) compensation philosophy supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Each position has a salary based on market value and the organization’s pay levels.  The starting salary for this position is $ 81.5with an opportunity for an increase after six months of employment.  As part of our commitment to pay equity, PPCCC does not negotiate salaries.
Pay Differential: $1.00/hour bilingual Spanish/English differential pay is offered upon passing the language assessment test.
