Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a strategic and collaborative Vice President, Federation Leadership & Engagement. This job reports to the Executive Vice President and Chief Federation Engagement and Impact Officer (EVP/CFEIO) in the Federation Engagement and Impact (FEI) division of PPFA.
Purpose:
The Vice President, Federation Leadership & Engagement (FLE) provides leadership, partnership, and resources to ensure leadership and governance practices across Planned Parenthood entities are conducted in a manner that reflects the values and furthers the mission of Planned Parenthood. This position is also responsible for providing leadership development, executive-level best practices, recommendations, and strategies to affiliate CEOs and will support affiliate Boards of Directors with CEO recruiting, retention, evaluation and transitions.
Engagement:
This is a highly strategic and facilitative role that requires a combination of focus and flexibility as well as a willingness to play an active, behind-the-scenes role. This role requires a self-aware individual with strong emotional intelligence and self-motivation who is adept in active listening and has strong communication and diplomatic skills.
● Coordinate closely with the EVP/CFEIO and Office of the President to ensure affiliate perspectives are well represented and reflected as the President/CEO and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) prioritize the National Office strategic plan in service of the mission and the long range goals and priorities approved by the PPFA Membership.
● Serve on the FEI leadership team and the Senior Management Council, working collaboratively to advance the division’s strategic objectives and annual work plan in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to advancing a culture of equity and belonging.
● Work collaboratively with the VP of Membership Affairs (Office of the General Counsel), Chief of Staff (Office of the President) and other PPFA leaders to maximize engagement of Federation stakeholders: affiliate CEOs, affiliate Board Chairs, PPFA Board of Directors, and PPFA executive leadership.
● Lead efforts to support affiliates facing unique, extenuating, and/or confidential circumstances, working in partnership with Communications and Culture, Office of General Counsel, and the EVP/CFEIO as appropriate.
● Serve as an advisor to the EVP/CFEIO and act as their designee to the committee and workgroups to ensure affiliate CEO perspectives and needs are centered in the advancement of the annual work plan and strategic objections, and serve as designee to the Affiliate Chief Executive Council (ACEC) when needed.
● With the VP, Advanced Analytics and Research, monitor threads and trends from a qualitative perspective and map to available quantitative data to drive insights for creating the conditions for affiliates to thrive.
● Collaborate with the VP, Federation Impact on the dissemination of best practices, Federation-wide communications and affiliate engagement.
Delivery:
The Vice President, Federation Leadership & Engagement will provide oversight of technical assistance and consulting services to Planned Parenthood affiliate executive and volunteer leadership. This individual will also support affiliates in strengthening their governance and leadership practices, advancing culture and belonging leadership practices through direct consultation, training, and coordination of resources. The Vice President, FLE will oversee staff who support the affiliates in developing strong governance practices, manage the Partnership In Leadership program (which brings together affiliate CEOs and affiliate board chairs to enhance collaborative leadership techniques), and ensure overall systems, practices and policies foster superb affiliate account management and support services.
Affiliate Relationship Management
● Develop strategies to grow trusted, collaborative and inclusive relationships between the national office and affiliates.
● Design, monitor and champion coordinated and inclusive strategies across the National Office to provide excellent customer service to all Federation stakeholders.
● Ensure systems, policies and practices are employed across the national office consistently and develop constructive feedback mechanisms to ensure accountability, including supporting the EVP/CFEIO and ACEC Chair with the shared commitment to the PPFA-ACEC guiding principles.
● Oversee the account management team as the single point of contact for affiliates with the national office, including overall responsibility for the usage and scaling of PPCRM, related practices and policies, and coordination of the affiliate employee experience survey and best practices.
Affiliate Resource Team
● Manage a nimble team of professionals with financial, operational and clinical expertise to provide consultative service to affiliates with new CEO leadership and/or affiliates facing challenges to their sustainability.
● Provide overall leadership for the Financial Assessment and Support Engagement (FASE) Program, under the day-to-day management of the Senior Director, to fulfill the duties as defined by the Accreditation and Quality Committee (AQC) to support affiliate efforts to re-establish financial viability.
Support Affiliate Leadership: CEOs and Board Chairs
● Oversee the programs and support provided to the Affiliate Board Chairs and leaders in service of sharing best practices and creating a community for affiliate governance volunteers ensuring strong leadership of PPFA member affiliates in service of the mission and long-range goals of the Federation.
● Ensure onboarding support and resources to new CEOs as they enter their new role with the Federation, partnering with ACEC to ensure affiliate leadership are equipped to succeed in their roles and can navigate the available resources throughout the Federation.
● Serve as a trusted executive thought partner and resource to affiliate CEOs on a host of issues that can often be sensitive in nature and require confidentiality.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
● At least 15 years of directly related experience, including experience in an executive level role preferably at a nonprofit or healthcare setting is required. Experience with a federated or membership organization is strongly preferred.
● A degree in business administration, nonprofit management or organizational leadership is preferred.
● Experience providing consultative services to C-suite executives and non-profit Board leaders
● Excellent skills in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders with an ability to engage
colleagues at all levels in projects and processes
● Understands the importance of working collaboratively and also confidentially in moving work forward; able to facilitate amongst diverse communities and individuals
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and social justice
● A record of success managing and developing a diverse and talented staff
● Outstanding oral and written communication skills including public speaking
● Ability to manage through influence when working with organizational leaders and other stakeholders

Travel: 25% Travel
$235,000 - $255,000 a year
