Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a Senior Copy Editor. This job reports to the Director of Editorial Services and Strategy in the Brand Department of PPFA/Action Fund. The Brand Team works to develop and deliver a clear and culturally competent brand expression that strengthens the relationship with our audience, broadens the breadth of our equity, values, and beliefs, and drives the organization's external strategies for shifting culture toward positive sexual and reproductive health care and rights. The Brand Department is part of the Communications and Culture Division at PPFA.

Purpose: 
Ensure the brand expression of the federation's content is engaging, culturally competent, correct, and consistent with Planned Parenthood's brand strategy — always with an eye toward expanding brand awareness in both new and existing audiences. 
Manage and protect the factual integrity of all federation content by overseeing the review of print, online, and video materials — including, but not limited to, rapid response work streams.
Prioritize and organize a heavy volume of content, including multiple immediate- and long-term projects and deadlines across different work streams. 

Manage editorial’s queue of projects to copy edit and fact check, as submitted by other teams, and recommend process improvements in collaboration with the brand department’s project management colleagues.

Delivery: 
Review and edit large volumes of content and materials created by staff throughout the organization and advise stakeholders on brand voice and content development.
Edit for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and optimal engagement materials, including press releases, style guides, video scripts, social media posts, fundraising messages, and more.
Draft concise copy that resonates with diverse audiences, using a honed racial and social justice lens to create inclusive, non-stigmatizing, culturally relevant, relatable messages.
Collaborate with creative and brand strategy teams to enrich brand content and copy — using strong verbal and written communication skills.
Support creative and original content efforts, including writing video scripts, paid media content, and social media content.

Engagement:
Edit copy with an eye not only to brand voice and audience needs but also to foster an understanding of good writing across other teams within the organization, building trust in brand expertise.
Liaise across divisions, including brand, legal, and policy teams, to communicate editorial capacity, prioritize projects, and manage deadlines. 
Work closely with the Editorial Director to develop and socialize tools and resources that expand and elevate content creation throughout the national office and affiliate network.
Build and nurture exceptionally strong relationships with colleagues, external partners, and leaders across the organization.
Interpret and navigate complex feedback from other teams and stakeholders while maintaining a brand-first point of view.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): 
Excellent editing skills 
Five years experience in copy editing and journalism
Strong background and/or passion for sexual and reproductive health care is preferred
Proven track record managing multiple projects at once
Comfortable in a rapid-response environment that will sometimes require work outside normal business hours — as news, elections, and other events dictate
Self-starter who possesses a positive, solutions-oriented "We Jump In" attitude 
Deeply committed to health and racial equity 
Strategic thinker with a keen vision for content analysis and exceptional verbal and written communication skills 
Collaborative consensus builder with sound soft skills and emotional intelligence

Location:
Position location is open to DC or NYC hybrid or telecommuter

TRAVEL: 0-20% domestic
$75,000 - $80,000 a year
