POSITION TITLE: Education Department Practicum Student
STATUS: Unpaid
REPORTS TO: Sexual Health Training Coordinator & Task Supervisors

POSITION SUMMARY 
Under the leadership and direction of the Education Department, this position shall conduct  multi-subject Evidence Based Education, for various populations including but not limited to  students in grades K-12, technical schools, colleges and universities, youth-serving  organizations, parent groups, religious organizations, individuals and groups with varying  disabilities, youth in the Teen Advocates for Sexual Health (TASH) program, and other populations. The practicum student will also be responsible for participating in community outreach; providing support to the maintenance of education materials & library; and furthering the integration and appreciation of diversity and inclusion in and for the department. This position requires a mandatory two-day training at the beginning of the practicum, and additional trainings throughout the course of the practicum such as the INclued curriculum. Must be able to communicate effectively with various populations. Requires exceptional public speaking, teaching, and writing skills. This position also requires computer and writing work that will require sitting at a desk for extended periods and requires standing for periods of time in excess of one hour. 
PRIMARY DUTIES PERFORMED 
        Provide sex education programs to community groups and the TASH program on such topics as contraception, sexually transmitted infections, sexual responsibility, healthy relationships, etc. 
        Assist in decision making, planning, preparation, & implementation of lesson plans & materials; digitizing materials & activities; refreshing multi-media sources for curricula & topic areas; digitizing & organizing education files for the TASH program and community education sessions.
       Support Education Department in implementing the INclued Program for Health Center Staff and Youth groups.
       Support adherence to reporting requirements & abide by evaluation systems policies and procedures, working with the Education Department to apply results for service improvement.
       Market all education’s programs and services internally and externally of PPGR to  prospective groups and agencies.
       Aid in interdepartmental collaboration to execute Education Department Goals and Services, such as Trivia Nights, Lobby Days, and social media / marketing.
       Adhere to affiliate policies on professionalism, wait time on the phone, and the system  for addressing client complaints.
       Maintain brochures, education box supplies, and library materials.
 
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
 
       Representing Planned Parenthood at visibility events including, but not limited to, parades, marches, rallies, meetings, workshops, tabling opportunities. Practicum student may be responsible for leading other volunteers during events.
       Coordinate and supervise lobby days and retreats for the TASH program and community education sessions.
       Periodic travel to affiliate locations may be required.
       Other duties as assigned.
 
EXPECTATIONS
Along with adherence to job duties, the following is expected of all Education Practicum Students:
       Attend and assist in a day-time staff training one Tuesday a month (usually the 3rd Tuesday).
       Arrive at TASH meetings 45 minutes early to help set up.
       Attend TASH meetings on the second & fourth Wednesdays and third Saturdays of the month, and a few office hours as requested by Education staff for team meetings.
       Engage in peer-based accountability during meetings (i.e. help the group follow the pre agreed upon group norms).
       Stay up to 30 minutes after a TASH meeting & community education sessions to help clean up.

Adherence to PPGR and department policies that:
     Ensure the highest quality and most professional services for PPGR clients; protect PPGR’s assets from liability;
       Assure for the physical safety of PPGR clients and employees;
       Protects confidentiality of PPGR clients, donors, board members, and all areas of  operations;
       Follows HIPAA privacy and security guidelines. 
QUALIFICATIONS 
       Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and professional individual who can teach sexuality education in a variety of group settings.
       Organizational skills, including project management and productivity tracking.
       Must be flexible; working afternoons, evening and weekend hours is required.
       Efficient means of transportation to all off site program locations is essential.
       Commitment to human sexuality, reproductive justice, racial equity, LGBTQIA+  inclusion, sexual health and freedom, and comprehensive sexuality education is essential.
       Commitment to the mission, services and programs of PPGR and of the PPFA Sex  Education Statement of Principles and Values is essential.
       Commitment to confidentiality is required. 
       Ability to communicate and work positively and effectively with persons of various  cultures, age groups, abilities, genders, sexes, religions, sexual orientations and socio economic classes. 
       Diversity training, knowledge and facilitation skills a plus.
       Bilingual skills a plus, particularly Spanish, Serbo-Croatian, and/or Vietnamese.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
       Candidates for practicum positions must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in social work, public health, public policy, or related field. 
       Experience working with youth in an organized role.
