Position Title: Director of Development-El Paso
Location: El Paso, TX
Reports To: Senior Director of Development
Supervises: Volunteers in area of responsibility
Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt
- The Director of Development-El Paso has responsibilities supporting the Development department at Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas (PPGT). Some of the key responsibilities includes: (1) fundraising and relationship-building activities with individual donors and foundations, (2) identifies additional and ongoing individual donor and foundation support, (3) identifies, cultivates, and stewards major gifts, and (4) organizes and coordinates fundraising events in the assigned regional area. Ensures productivity expectations and compliance standards are maintained. Abides by the organization’s mission in performing job duties. Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to quality health care and excellent customer service.
Essential Job Functions & Expectations
- Manages the Major Gifts program and conducts fundraising activities for assigned region.
- Manages major gift solicitations, solicitation procedures and cultivation of donors from the earliest planning stages through implementation and follow-up.
- Makes face-to-face solicitations of major donors and prospects and provides staff support for solicitations in coordination with executive leadership and leadership volunteers.
- Manages local Community Board involvement in fundraising and any relevant training.
- Responsible for working with events staff to organize and coordinate Special Events for assigned area of responsibility. Serves as primary contact for local event co-chairs and committees.
- Participates in Development staff meetings. Conducts staff meetings with leadership team members as appropriate.
- In conjunction with the Sr. Director of Development and Senior Vice President of Development, develops effective strategies and leads efforts to achieve the fundraising and outreach goals for area of responsibility.
- Partners with the leadership team to enhance community visibility, establish donor relations, etc.
- Manages the mentoring of new solicitors to assure their success in fundraising.
- Builds effective and trustworthy relationships with major donors, board members, foundation trustees, staff and community leaders.
- Assures compliance with the Board of Director’s governance policies on development as well as the standards established by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
- Assures that all fundraising materials and any communication with the public maintain the highest standards of integrity and honesty.
- Manages volunteer committees that support special campaigns.
- Accepts public speaking engagements as appropriate.
- Ensures that the Board of Directors, staff and committees are regularly informed of fundraising progress and provide analysis of development gift receipt trends.
- Develops and implements a coordinated, year-round Major Gifts plan and timetable, including setting target goals and monitoring results.
- Develops and implements plan to strategically build and maintain donor base, including setting target goals and monitoring results.
- Coordinates a Fundraising Committee of the Board and community volunteers to implement year-round stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation of donors.
- Works to engage in systematic research on prospective donors, foundations, and corporations to identify sources of support and to supply solicitors with prospect information.
- In conjunction with other appropriate staff, develops printed materials needed for fundraising (e.g. instructional materials, pledge cards, brochures, envelopes, mailing pieces).
- Works to maintain and expand database of prospective, current, and past donors.
- Promotes and facilitates integration, collaboration and teamwork between all departments throughout the organization to advance the overall plans and initiatives.
- Develops an effective leadership style with team members.
- Produces timely and accurate reports to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and regulatory agencies as requested.
- Maintains knowledge of abortion and family planning regulations and implements changes as necessary.
- Represents the organization at meetings, community events, conferences, and fundraising events, as appropriate.
- Has restricted access to client private health information and has no reason to view protected health information (PHI). May have access to data that is not considered PHI, such as aggregate numbers.
- Ensures achievement of agency goals, vision and mission.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
- Bachelor’s degree in a wide-variety of disciplines.
- 6 years of professional experience in any of the following: health care, non-profit, business, or social services environment. Must have significant fundraising experience.
- Must have excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet. Must have the willingness and ability to adapt to change including advances or new technology. Must have excellent customer service skills and be committed to providing the highest level of internal and external customer satisfaction.
