Planned Parenthood Keystone (PPKey) serves 37 counties in Pennsylvania, home to over half of Pennsylvania residents. We have administrative offices in the Lehigh Valley, Harrisburg, Warminster, and York. We operate 8 medical centers that serve over 30,000 patients annually and offer comprehensive sexuality education that reaches thousands of young adults.

Planned Parenthood Keystone is looking for individuals who are committed to supporting our shared goal of strengthening and enhancing our awareness and commitment to advancing the cause of racial & social justice in our organization.

As a member of the education team, the Community Health Educator is responsible for providing comprehensive, age-appropriate sexuality education programs, individual counseling sessions, resources, and referrals through our LGBTQ+ youth programs and the Health Resource Center program. 

Essential Functions:

    • Deliver Comprehensive Programs: Provide accurate and age-appropriate education programs on various topics, including family planning, contraception, abortion, human sexuality, sexually transmitted infections, sexual orientation, gender identity, and services offered by Planned Parenthood. These programs may be conducted as single or multiple sessions and may be delivered in person or online, depending on the needs and preferences of the audience. 

    • Staff and Coordinate Health Resource Center (HRC): Maintain office hours for the Health Resource Center, offering evidence-based confidential counseling, referrals, mental health screening, and connecting youth with family planning and sexual health services. Additionally, it provides information on safer sex supplies and education. Work closely with facility staff to ensure the successful execution of the HRC program. 

    • Health Awareness Campaigns: Develop and execute health awareness campaigns in Berks County to promote and support the Health Resource Center. 

    • Youth Advisory Board Engagement: Regularly meet with members of the Youth Advisory board to inform program development and campaigns. Additionally, actively recruit new members for the Youth Advisory Board within the community. 

    • Engage in Outreach Activities: Participate in outreach activities such as tabling events, condom drop-offs, and involvement in relevant community groups. Occasional travel to other counties within our service area may be required. 

    • Lead LGBTQ+ Youth Program: Facilitate and provide leadership for "The Spectrum," our weekly LGBTQ+ youth program based in Berks County, in partnership with Reading School District staff. 

    • Community Outreach: Attend community outreach events as needed to promote Education programs and Planned Parenthood services. Travel to different counties within our service area may be necessary. 

    • Manage Social Media Presence: Maintain an active presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to promote LGBTQ+ youth programs and the HRC. 

    • Use Branded Materials: Utilize Planned Parenthood-approved branding and signage during program activities. 

    • Documentation and Reporting: Compile and submit required records and reports to the Director of Education. 

    • Compliance: Follow all organization policies, procedures, and protocols, including adhering to HIPAA and patient privacy regulations. 

    • Continuous Learning: Stay updated by regularly reviewing literature related to the field. 

    • Training: Complete all required annual training sessions. 

    • Confidentiality: Maintain strict client and program participant confidentiality. 

    • Promote Inclusivity: Foster a culture that embraces diversity, fair and respectful treatment of all individuals, and a client-focused approach in all educational activities. 

Qualifications & Experience (required):

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in education or a related field, or equivalent experience in family planning, counseling, education, social services, or healthcare. 

    • Travel: Must have the ability and willingness to travel, with access to reliable transportation. 

    • Location: Must reside within 30 minutes of the Reading Health Center at 1920 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19604.

    • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in computer skills, including the use of affiliate email, Internet, and patient management systems software, as applicable to the job. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 is essential. 

    • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and convey a warm and caring demeanor. 

    • Group Interaction: Proficiency in communication, both in large and small group settings, as well as one-on-one interactions. Strong skills in group facilitation and classroom management. 

    • Teaching Skills: Ability to master the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain high-quality teaching of comprehensive sexuality education. 

    • Organizational Skills: Must be able to plan, set priorities, and consistently meet deadlines. 

    • Flexible Availability: Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required. 

    • Analytical and Problem-Solving: Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. 

    • Independence: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    • Continuous ability to read, speak, hear, and see
    • Occasional exposure to outside weather, and heat or cold conditions
    • Continuous exposure to moderate noise level
    • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds

Salary & Benefits:

    • Compensation for this position starts at $21.00 per hour
