POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of the Lead Medical Technologist / Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Coordinator is accountable for the day-to-day operations of the lab.  This includes complying with all regulations, following all quality control procedures, maintaining logs, and stocking the lab with supplies.  Ensures that all lab equipment is in good working order and oversees routine maintenance, as required.  Works collaboratively with other Health Center leadership staff to establish and maintain standards of practice; teaches and oversees laboratory orientation; maintains ongoing educational activities for staff; creates and sustains a healthy work environment; and, maintains collaborative working relationships with stakeholders.

Compensation: $26.27/hr
This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Trains new and current staff in all required laboratory testing, maintains and tracks competencies for staff twice a year, and follows up with staff who are not meeting proficiency standards.
    • Ensures all specimens are handled, processed, and reconciled in accordance with laboratory procedures and PPLM policy.
    • Oversees lab set up, cleaning, and quality control documentation – taking and documenting corrective action as needed.
    • Oversees laboratory equipment by ensuring calibration and maintenance. Provides troubleshooting as needed.
    • Oversees laboratory supplies and ordering of Quest supplies
    • Follows all Universal and Standard Precautions and procedures for biohazard and sharps waste disposal.
    • Ensures efficient patient flow in the lab.
    • Adheres to and enforces established policies and procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements with agencies such as DPH (Department of Public Health), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act), PPCGB, PPLM and PPFA (Planned Parenthood Federation of America).
    • Follows HIPAA (Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines and maintains professional confidentiality of all patient health information.
    • Creates and sustains a healthy work environment and works effectively with all members of the health center to ensure accuracy and efficacy of laboratory procedures.
    • Serves as point of contact for any laboratory consultants. 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • To meet the functional qualities of the position one must be able to lift 30lbs and have sufficient stamina to move efficiently throughout the health center for 90% of scheduled shift.
    • Must be able to bend and reach for stocking inventory and supplies in procedure/exam rooms and respond to patient care needs.
    • Must have oral, auditory, and visual ability to ensure solid patient communication.
    • Must have the ability to respond to a variety of situations efficiently and effectively.
    • Schedule requirements may include daytime, evenings, and some Saturdays
    • Depending on the location travel may be required.
    • Participation in PPLM’s efforts to achieve goals for productivity.
    • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma/GED mandatory
    • Medical lab technician certification preferred
    • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a health care clinic setting
    • Familiarity with in-office laboratory testing
    • Experience working with EHR (Electronic Health Record) preferred
    • Past management experience preferred
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
