Job Summary:
The Clinical Trainer provides training to support Planned Parenthood of Maryland’s (PPM) clinical care under the direction of the Training Program Manager (TPM), with oversight and strategic direction from the Chief Medical Officer, Director of Clinical Education & Training and the Clinical Services Department. The Clinical Trainer works in partnership with the Health Center Managers and Medical Assistant III’s to provide standardized training using the PPM Training Curriculum, collaborate with other Clinical Services & Operations Administrative staff on projects that ensure efficient center operations and high-quality patient services, and perform administrative tasks supporting the Clinical Services Department.  

Primary Responsibilities:

    • Under the direction of the TPM, provide training to new MAs by assisting in New Hire Orientation facilitation, training in the health centers, developing training tools and resources guides, and providing webinar presentations.
    • Participate in the training plan development and implementation for other essential components of clinical support, ex: intake, education, point of care testing, lab quality assurance, abortion care, etc.
    • Implement ongoing training programs for existing MAs.  Periodically assess MA skills, providing re-training as needed.
    • Maintain assigned training outlines, presentations, and other training tools to align with updated policies, procedures, and best-practices.
    • Work closely with the Epic Clinical Training curricula as a Credential Trainer. Offer regular Epic EMR classroom style and one-on-one training.
    • Remain fluent in policies and procedures of PPM Family Planning services and Surgical Services.
    • Be able to train staff on the essential non-licensed health center support functions in various learning settings.
    • Must be able to travel to all health centers to train, as needed.
    • Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and staff development activities as requested. Assist in the development of associate learning curriculum.
    • Other related duties as assigned.

Secondary Functions:

    • Assist the Chief Medical Officer with production of the Medical Standards & Guidelines on an annual basis. 
    • Make changes to client fact sheets, medical chart forms, and the Medical Standards and Guidelines manual. 
    • Assist with emergency situations according to PPM standards and guidelines. 

Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required plus 4 years’ experience working in healthcare or related field; OR, Bachelor’s degree with 2 years’ experience working in healthcare or related field.
    • Experience training or coaching others.
    • Experience with public speaking.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Previous experience in a medical setting is desirable but not required.
    • CPR certification or willingness to obtain immediately after employment.
    • Ability to draw blood (phlebotomy), place IV’s, and administer injections or willingness to obtain skills after employment.
    • Ability to perform obstetric ultrasound or willingness to obtain skills after employment.
    • Knowledge of principles and practices of administration, organization, common techniques and practices in a medical clinic setting. 
    • Knowledge of medical billing, medical assisting or health education preferred.
    • Must have valid driver’s license, car, and ability to drive to all PPM health centers.  Mileage is reimbursed.

Other Essential Skills:

    • Independently plan, organize, schedule, coordinate and make decisions and judgments relating to assigned projects and other responsibilities.
    • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite for creation of training documents, presentations, and tracking sheets with a high-level of skill in formatting and layout design preferred. 
    • Ability to learn computer programs, especially Epic EMR.
    • Effective verbal communication skills within a diverse environment. 
    • Ability to establish working relationships and interact effectively with a wide range of people. 
    • Proven writing skills, especially for training materials or policies or procedure memos.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Must be able to function efficiently in a fast-paced environment with distractions and interruptions.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
