Position Description
Reporting to the Executive Director of PPAM and Vice-President for Public Advocacy, PPMI, the Director of Political & Field Operations will develop, implement, and manage a strategic statewide political & field organizing plan on behalf of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan (PPAM). This position will work with PPAM coalitions & partners to achieve the political and electoral program objectives. The Director of Political & Field Operations directs and manages various programs, including issue education, electoral organizing campaigns, civic engagement, and leadership development activities. Responsible for overall supervision and management of professional-level PPAM field and program staff, this leader will fully embody a commitment to race equity, evidenced in all interactions with PPMI colleagues, external stakeholders, and staff supervision.
Essential Functions
Leadership
· Directs and supervises the work of the Associate Director, Field Operations and Associate Director, Constituency Programs, and Civic & Field Organizing teams.
· Demonstrates a commitment to race equity. Maintains current knowledge of PPMI’s work toward enhanced race equity standards, is held accountable to them and holds their team members accountable.
· Manages and mentors a culturally diverse team; creates and sustains an organizational culture that fosters inclusiveness and equity.
· Interprets, applies and recommends changes to organizational policies and procedures as needed.
· Reviews progress of assignments with senior management.
· Actively participates as a member of PPMI’s Leadership Team.
· Leads team members using a performance support process that includes goal setting, routine feedback, and ongoing development.
· Empowers staff to deliver assigned responsibilities and manage their functions.
· Provides regular development feedback to team and accountability related to practices including, but
not limited to, equity.
· Continuously maintains professional growth and learning by attending conferences, seminars, etc.
Field Operations & Program Oversight
· In collaboration with the PPAM Executive Director, develops, implements and directs annual and long term strategic statewide organizing plans for increasing public affairs capacity.
· Oversees implementation of all programs and community outreach activities, including: political action teams, volunteer activist engagement opportunities, field organizing and state and local coalition development cultivation and maintenance.
· In collaboration with the PPAM Executive Director, develops and manages the annual program budget for political & field operations.
· Works directly with field specific vendors, contract employees and agencies, and supervises related projects.
· Provides technical assistance, guidance and support to field and affiliate staff and volunteers in a coordinated, strategic manner.
· Directs and supervises the enhancement and maintenance of statewide reproductive health care and reproductive justice supporter identification lists, modeled voter list and Voter Action Network email list.
· Develops, implements and manages systems and infrastructure that enables staff to best organize, educate and mobilize activists.
· Develops measures of success for the grassroots organizing team and provides regular progress and outcome reports to the Executive Director, grantors, boards and staff.
· Analyzes performance of annual program and organizing plan and supervises all field related data management.
· Contributes significantly to the efforts to secure private and public grant funding by providing detailed information on field specific program strategy, plans and budgets.
· Develops and directs campaigns to engage Planned Parenthood staff and patients to cultivate grassroots support.
Political & Electoral
· Develops and implements issue awareness, electoral and voter mobilization campaigns designed to move policy, expand access to abortion, and sustain access to sexual and reproductive healthcare and reproductive justice.
· Directs and supervises the recruitment and training of key legislative and political contacts in targeted districts throughout the state.
· Supervises the planning and execution of leadership development program activities for field teams and volunteers.
· Keeps abreast of current legislative and electoral news.
· Supports all lobbying, media outreach, and other Public Affairs Department activities through grassroots activism.
· Identifies opportunities and fosters relationships for effective coalition building to educate and activate the general public about reproductive rights and health care.
· Supervises the coordination and execution of special events, including leadership development retreats and conferences, lobby days, and volunteer activist engagement events.
· In conjunction with the Communications Department, creates materials and content to support electoral and voter mobilization campaigns.
· Oversees program and grant reporting process in compliance with requirements, laws and regulations.

Qualifications and Experience
Required
· Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, a relevant field or equivalent years of experience
· A minimum of 5 years of experience in political & field operations, community organizing or relevant field
· A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
· Advanced knowledge of political issues and reproductive health issues impacting the organization's ability to further its mission
· Advanced knowledge of the reproductive justice framework and equitable and inclusionary practices
· Advanced knowledge of coordinated and independent expenditure campaigns
· Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives in collaboration with other functional areas
· Demonstrated commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission, vision and values
