POSITION TITLE: Mid Michigan Organizer and Educator
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt 
ANNUAL SALARY: $57,000 per year
LOCATION: Mid Michigan Region (Typically: Ann Arbor, Lansing, Mount Pleasant)
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Up to 40% travel within Michigan. Out of state travel up to 2x per year.

Position Description
Reporting directly to the Volunteer and Field Manager, the Mid Michigan Community Organizer and Educator works with communities in Mid Michigan to build, implement, and execute field organizing and education programs to achieve the goals of Planned Parenthood's education, advocacy and organizing initiatives including, but not limited to: youth peer education, community education, relational organizing programs, door-to-door canvassing, text banking, phone banking, digital organizing and education, outreach events, activist nights, volunteer training, grassroots lobbying, legislative education efforts, and special projects across large geographic regions. This position uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training.
 
Essential Functions
●      Demonstrate a commitment to race equity. Maintains current knowledge of PPMI’s work toward enhanced race equity standards, is held accountable to them and holds team members accountable.
 
Outreach and Organizing (60%)
●      Responsible for directing activities of supporters, members, and volunteers, volunteer engagement groups, and activities that support awareness and advocacy campaigns, including, but not limited to, Legislative Action Teams, Volunteer Leadership Councils, PPAM Members, and more.
●      Actively participates in identifying tabling, volunteer recruitment, public speaking, and other visibility opportunities and works with supervisor to prioritize those opportunities.
●      Establishes, maintains, and expands upon existing relationships and creates new alliances with state and local coalitions and allied organizations to strengthen visibility, credibility, and mobilization efforts.
●      Works collaboratively across teams
●      Under the direction of Volunteer and Field Manager, implements and executes grassroots campaigns and other initiatives while meeting numerical and recruitment goals.
●      Works to deliver electoral wins for Pro-Sexual and Reproductive Health (Pro-SRH) champions so that we may secure policy wins for our organization, patients, supporters, and communities
●      Mobilizes supporters to advocate for the passing of pro-sexual & reproductive health policies
●      Implements and executes electoral and political ground campaign activities in target districts to persuade voters and increase voter turnout – including large-scale paid and volunteer door-to-door canvassing programs and phone banking, managing teams of paid and volunteer canvassers, utilizing the Voter Activation Network (VAN) database and cutting turf, scriptwriting, and electoral and political messaging; including recruiting dues-paying members to PPAM Membership program to increase engagement with electoral work in defined turf.
●      Maintains and applies up-to-date knowledge of political and legislative issues impacting the mission of the organization as well as effective political grassroots campaign tactics and methodologies.
●      Implements and executes grassroots issue education campaigns that engage and mobilize priority communities for a large geographic region.
 
 
Peer Education Responsibilities (~30%)
·       Implement and facilitate a PPMI Teen Peer Education Program, including but not limited to:
o   Marketing, recruiting for, interviewing, and screening a group of high school aged young leaders who meet program criteria to participate in a PPMI Teen Peer Education Program
o   Conducting a program and parent/guardian program orientation and continued program and parent/guardian communications. Securing and maintaining all appropriate program consent, documentation, permissions, etc.
o   Coordinating logistics for program implementation (i.e. any meals, materials, print, etc.)
o   Creating, adapting, updating, facilitating, and leading a peer education training following best practices in facilitation and program implementation aligned with the PPMI mission and services
o   Implementing and following all program protocol and practices and reporting mandates in compliance with PPMI policies and state/federal laws working with minors
o   Scheduling, tracking attendance, documenting agenda/minutes, and facilitating activities for all peer education program meetings
o   Scheduling, tracking attendance, documenting lesson plans and facilitating presentations with peer educators in the communities served
o   Scheduling, tracking attendance, documenting lesson plans and facilitating organizing and outreach activities with peer educators in the communities served
o   Designing, implementing, integrating, and reporting on program evaluations
o   Completing risk assessments and security protocol/presentation agreements for program activities following department protocol and practices in compliance with PPMI policies and state/federal laws
o   Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 
 
Education and/or Other Grant Funded Project Responsibilities (~10%)
·       Conduct high quality sexuality education and other grant funded programs for youth, adults, parents, teachers, youth professionals, and other stakeholders in various community and school settings.
·       Utilize facilitation and presentation best practices and curricula in education presentations, training, and other events.   
·       Promote PPMI health centers and reproductive health care services and resources through ongoing outreach and education in the community.
·       Compile all required data and evaluations as part of educational and/or grant activities including attendance records, program evaluations, as well as program and participant assessments.
·       Maintain and monitor grant and program progress by tracking data and generating monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Provides regular reporting per department and funding requirements.
·       Completing risk assessments and security protocol/presentation agreements for program activities following department protocol and practices in compliance with PPMI policies and state/federal laws
·       Align program activities and work priorities with affiliate, grant, and department goals.
·       In coordination with the Education Department and communications team, aid in developing, distributing and/or promoting marketing and social media content.
·       Implement and follow all program protocol and practices and reporting mandates in compliance with PPMI policies and state/federal laws.
·       Maintain current and accurate records and documentation of all activities. 
·       Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 
 
Other Responsibilities:
●      Works inter-departmentally within PPMI to identify and coordinate cross-departmental outreach opportunities.
●      Works with supervisor to implement a metrics-based reporting system
●      Responsible for regular reporting and communication of organizing efforts and results to leadership.
●      Reviews progress of assignments with supervisor and reaches out proactively for troubleshooting/support.
●      Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications, including, but not limited to printer/copiers, laptops/tablets, Google Suite, Asana, and Outlook Email Software.
●      This position requires significant contact with the public and serves as the face of PPMI and PPAM in local communities.
●      Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience
Preferred:
 
·       Bachelor’s Degree or Certified Sexuality Educator, Certified Family Life Educator or Certified Health Education Specialist.
·       2-5  years of relevant experience in Community or Field Organizing, Political Science, Social Justice and/or Community Engagement work, or related fields OR any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by hiring decision-makers.
·       Preferred Disciplines: Human Sexuality, Family Life Education, Gender Studies, Health and Human Services, Community Health Education, Sociology, or similar
·       At least three years’ experience in education and/or health/sexuality education, youth development or related field.  One to two years public speaking or group facilitation experience required. Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.
·       Demonstrated training in sexual health education content and facilitation best practices for leading inclusive, trauma-informed, comprehensive sexual health education programs.
·       Demonstrated commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission, vision and values
·       Skill in operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office
·       Knowledge of intermediate to advanced concepts, practices and procedures used in human sexuality, reproductive health issues and family planning education.
·       Knowledge of intermediate to advanced concepts, practices and procedures used in the design and facilitation of content targeted toward adolescent and adult learners
·       Ability to:
o   Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives.
o   Facilitate meetings, ensuring that all viewpoints, ideas and problems are addressed.
o   Design, develop and deliver program materials to diverse audiences.
o   Experience in grant-writing/reporting is a plus.
