Position Reports to    Health Center Manager
Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey is seeking to hire Certified Medical Assistants for their health centers. The Certified Medical Assistant will perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the practice of clinicians and other health practitioners simple and ensure that patients are served. The Clinical Assistant obtains patients’ history, performs lab tests, assists clinicians in the exam room, and performs receptionist and/or billing duties. The duties of the medical assistant are under the general supervision and direction of the Center Manager. The position REQUIRES working a varied schedule, which may include a mixture of days, evenings, and Saturdays. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provides administrative and clinical support including, but not limited to, the following at the health center (clinic):
    • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation is in accordance with the organization’s EMR workflows.
    • Counseling and education of patients is provided according to PPMNJ guidelines.
    • Prepares exam room and assists with patient preparation.
    • Cleans/disinfects exam rooms and lab.
    • Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes instruments.
    • Performs laboratory procedures including venipunctures, handling urine and blood specimens for: urinalysis, pregnancy, hemoglobin, HIV and Rh testing.
    • Maintains accurate medical and financial records that conform to the electronic health records workflows.
    • Verifies and documents insurance eligibility via phone or online clearinghouse.
    • Enters all financial transactions for the visit in the EMR system Billing Module.
    • Collects and documents all co-pays and fee for service monies in EMR systems
    • Registers patients at the front window.
    • Tracks patient’s time in the clinic via the Patient Activity Tracker.
    • Dispenses over the counter contraceptive supplies.
    • Performs ancillary support functions as assigned i.e., medical referral follow-ups.
    • Participates in quality assurance activities and meets established Quality Assurance (QA) deadlines.
    • Understands and complies with “Privacy Guidelines” and HIPAA compliance program.
    • Assists with on-the-job training as assigned.
    • Completes trainings as required.
    • Respects and maintains privacy and dignity of patients and assures patient confidentiality at all times

Other related responsibilities:

    • Productivity:
    • Assists the Center Manger in efforts to achieve the organization’s benchmarks for the level of service, visits per hour, waiting time, patient satisfaction and meeting revenue cycle goals.
    • Customer Service:
    • Represents the clinic in a professional manner in person, in telephone conversations, and in written correspondence
    • Performs as Patient Services Representative, as needed
    • Any other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited medical assistant program (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT or other)  is required
    • Maintains National certification as a medical assistant
    • Experience in family planning or as medical assistant preferred
    • Minimum one year of experience in a medical office setting required
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, preferred
    • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365/ outlook is required
    • Commitment to the goals and objectives of PPMNJ and to positive customer service.
    • Computer skills a plus; experience with Electronic Medical Records (NextGen ) a plus

Language

    • Bi-lingual(English and Spanish) a plus, but not required.

    • Phlebotomy
    • Vital signs, patient assessment
    • Administration of medications
    • Ability to work independently
    • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential
    • Attention to accuracy and detail
    • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of teamwork and staff satisfaction

$20 - $24 an hour
