We are seeking an experienced Clinical Assistant to be the Lead Clinical Assistant for PPMNJ health centers. The Lead Clinical Assistant is under the general supervision and direction of the Center Manager. The Lead Clinical Assistant will assist with training Clinical Assistants, obtains patient history, performs lab tests and receptionist/front desk duties along with billing responsibilities.
Essential Functions
- 1. Interviews patients to obtain pertinent medical and social history.
- 2. Completes EHR documentation in accordance with PPMNJ EHR workflows.
- 3. Counseling and education of patients is provided according to PPMNJ guidelines.
- 4. Prepares exam room and assists with patient preparation.
- 5. Cleans/disinfects exam rooms and lab.
- 6. Cleans and disinfects instruments.
- 7. Performs laboratory procedures including venipunctures, handling urine and blood specimens for: urinalysis, pregnancy, hemoglobin, and HIV testing.
- 8. Maintains accurate medical and financial records that conform to PPMNJ EHR workflows.
- 9. Verifies and documents insurance eligibility via phone or online clearinghouse.
- 10. Enters all financial transactions for the visit in the EHR Billing Module.
- 11. Collects and documents all co pays and fee for service monies in EHR system.
- 12. Registers patients at the front window.
- 13. Tracks patient’s time in the clinic via systems used.
- 14. Dispenses over the counter contraceptive supplies.
- 15. Participates in quality assurance activities and meets established QA deadlines.
- 16. Ensures compliance with PPMNJ’s “Privacy Guidelines” and HIPAA compliance program.
- 17. In conjunction with the center manager, oversees the daily activities of the Clinical Assistants (CAs).
- 18. Act as liaison between management and staff to identify inefficiencies.
- 19. Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Educator and EHR Specialist/ Trainer in the onboarding and training of new and existing staff in the clinic
- 20. Completes all PPMNJ Center for Affiliate Learning (CAL) training courses as required.
- 21. Completes and supervises all proficiency testing with lab tech.
- 22. Other duties as assigned, such as CDD denials, Holding Tank management, receiving inventory in inventory management system and other tasks to support the clinic.
- 23. Other tasks as assigned by Center Manager/Medical Administration.
- Customer Service
- 24. All duties and responsibilities are performed in a professional and customer service-oriented manner in compliance with PPMNJ” s policy and procedures.
- 25. Handles confidential matters and billing duties with judgment and tact.
- 26. Must have excellent communication skills
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Maintains National certification as a Medical Assistant
- Must have a minimum of 5 years working as a Clinical Assistant (CA)
- Experience in family planning preferred
- Commitment to the goals and objectives of PPMNJ
- Must have excellent computer skills and a background with working with EPIC
Training
- Completes Orientation Checklist for onboarding Clinical Assistants
- Overseas proficiency testing and provides guidance
- Completes competency and clinical skills assessments for staff in collaboration with the Center Mangers
- Works with staff that need additional education and training, utilizing evaluations in conjunction withthe clinical educator.

- This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. All employees are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination.
$22.87 - $31 an hour
