PPRO helps people to pay and get paid using local payment methods. Our technology and expertise overcomes barriers to help online merchants sell goods and services globally. We are migrating our platform from legacy systems to a cloud based micro-services environment. We are looking for a strong technical hands-on manager who can guide the team through this change.
Guide technical development of PPRO’s core payment gateway, working with product teams to build a strategic roadmap. Partner with the team to achieve a high level of technical productivity, reliability and simplicity, leading by example and helping them do their best work. Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of PPRO’s engineering management team. Recruit great engineers in collaboration with PPRO’s recruitment team, and develop them helping advance their careers. Provide the team with context and focus to enable effective planning and prioritisation including management of technical debt and non-functional requirements. Identifying and managing commitments to stakeholders, determining what is possible or not, and clearly communicating.
What does a typical day look like?
Hands-on contribution (10%) to the development of features, prototypes and technology evaluation. Mediate technical decision making amongst engineering team. Communicate objectives, timelines and project status to key stakeholders in the business. Perform management tasks such as 1:1 with direct reports, leading team meetings, participating in engineering management discussions, and guiding career development of direct reports.
What are the important skills (technical and soft) for this role?
Able to evaluate operational risks and tradeoffs within a complex system. Communication of context, vision and strategy, Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language. Hands-on skills with C++, and ideally Node.JS, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS and other modern cloud technologies. Experience working with agile development methodologies and workflows (Kanban, Scrum, etc)
