Why This Role Matters
The Staff Attorney plays a vital role in supporting PPSAT’s legal and regulatory obligations while maintaining compliance across our multi-state operations. This role ensures that our clinical, operational, and administrative practices comply with federal and state health care and employment laws and regulations, with a strong focus on reproductive health care. Working closely with PPSAT’s General Counsel, compliance team, clinical leadership, and external counsel, the Staff Attorney provides legal guidance and helps promote a culture of compliance and ethical health care service delivery.
Position Details
Location: Hybrid – within North Carolina or Virginia
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (40 hours/week)
Occasional evenings/weekends based on operational needs
Travel: Up to 10% within PPSAT's service area based on operational needs
What You’ll Be Doing
- Conduct legal research and provide guidance on health care compliance topics including HIPAA, Title X, Medicaid/Medicare, telehealth, informed consent, privacy, scope of practice, and fraud and abuse laws.
- Draft, review, and update internal policies and protocols to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Develop and deliver compliance-related training for staff on confidentiality, consent, and reporting requirements.
- Provide legal guidance and support to staff who are operationalizing legislative and regulatory changes in NC, SC, VA, and WV.
- Assist with internal assessments and audits, including responses to government inquiries
- Review and negotiate contracts related to clinical operations and staffing to ensure compliance and best practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice in North Carolina or Virginia.
- 2–5 years of legal experience with a focus on health care law, regulatory compliance, or nonprofit operations.
- Knowledge of reproductive health care laws and regulations strongly preferred.

Compensation Transparency
PPSAT is committed to equitable and transparent pay practices. This position is aligned within our established pay structure, with an annual salary range of $90,600.00 to $117,800.00. Starting salary will be determined based on experience and internal equity.
