The Manager of Belonging and Engagement plays a critical role in advancing this vision by leading initiatives that promote belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion (BEDI) across the organization.
Working in close partnership with the Director of People and Culture, this role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that improve employee engagement, support inclusive practices, and ultimately contribute to equitable health outcomes in the communities we serve.
Position Details
Location: Hybrid – Raleigh Administrative Office or within North Carolina
Schedule: Full-Time 8:30AM to 5:00PM (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday | Occasional evenings/weekends based on operational needs
Travel: Up to 20% within PPSAT’s service area
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design Strategy Based on Data: Analyze employee and patient engagement survey results alongside organizational goals to shape a results-driven Engagement and Belonging work plan.
- Lead Plan Implementation: Oversee the execution of a leadership-approved BEDI strategy that applies an intersectional lens to improve inclusiveness and cultural responsiveness.
- Facilitate Learning and Growth: Collaborate with the Training team to deliver education on intersectionality, anti-discrimination, and cultural and linguistic competency to staff at all levels.
- Promote Inclusive Practices: Raise awareness and promote practices that challenge discrimination and support understanding and inclusivity across the organization.
- Strengthen Collaboration: Build cross-functional partnerships across departments to ensure the Engagement and Belonging strategy reflects collective input and delivers shared outcomes.
- Advance Cultural Humility: Work with internal and external partners to develop training and resources on topics such as racial equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and cultural humility.
- Support Staff Development: Provide coaching and consultation on cross-cultural conflict resolution and support equitable professional development opportunities for all employees.
- Drive Workforce Diversity: Partner with Talent Acquisition, Training, and Volunteer Programs to design strategies for recruiting, retaining, and engaging a diverse workforce; expand access to community-based groups and internship pipelines.
- Enhance Inclusive Services: Consult with departments like Patient Services to improve the cultural competency of services and reduce barriers to care, particularly for marginalized communities.
- Align Communications and Outreach: Work with External Affairs and Development to create inclusive messaging and outreach strategies that reflect PPSAT’s values.
- Build External Partnerships: Cultivate strong relationships with diverse organizations, thought leaders, and community partners to inform PPSAT’s BEDI work and expand impact.
- Champion Community Engagement: Represent PPSAT’s commitment to belonging and inclusion in community interactions and ensure reciprocal collaboration with external partners.
- Guide Health Equity Efforts: Advise medical leadership on integrating equity into policies, procedures, and service delivery to help achieve more equitable health outcomes.
- Model Team Collaboration: Actively contribute to a positive, solution-oriented team environment by taking initiative, following through on commitments, and supporting peers.
What We’re Looking For
- A demonstrated passion and track record of advancing belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience using data to evaluate trends and inform action plans for engagement and continuous improvement.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills across diverse teams and leadership levels.
- Proven ability to facilitate sensitive conversations around race, culture, and equity.
- Exceptional communication skills—written, verbal, and cross-cultural.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong organizational abilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; OR a minimum of six years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree.
- 2–4 years of experience managing employee engagement and/or BEDI programs.
- Demonstrated experience implementing belonging, inclusion, and engagement programs within a healthcare organization
- Demonstrated success leading inclusion and culture change initiatives in a complex organization.

Compensation Transparency
PPSAT is committed to equitable and transparent pay practices. This position is placed within our established pay structure, with an annual salary range of $69,000–$89,000. Starting salary will be determined based on your experience and internal equity.
