JOB TITLE: Community Organizer

REPORTS TO: Georgia Public Policy and Organizing Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SALARY: $55,000 

LOCATION: Hybrid in Savannah, GA

SUMMARY The Community Organizer will work closely with other organizers, the Georgia Public Policy and Organizing Manager, and the entire Public Policy and Organizing team to effectively run a grassroots organizing program. The mission is to mobilize individuals in support of reproductive freedom and full access to reproductive health services. The Community Organizer will work with the Georgia Public Policy and Organizing Manager to formalize and streamline grassroots organizing activities while building capacity and infrastructure. The Community Organizer will conduct ongoing outreach activities, particularly around volunteer activities and issue-based campaigns. The Community Organizer coordinates and manages volunteers and interns to implement the agency's grassroots organizing activities. During election cycles, organizers will work to register voters, persuade voters to turnout, message in communities on behalf of Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates’ endorsed candidates, and participate in a “Get Out The Vote” program.

This is not a cycle dependent position. Current Community Organizer hours are 35 hours per week. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Grassroots Organizing
Develop organizing plan, goals, and metrics in conjunction with the Georgia Public Policy and Organizing Manager and Georgia State Director for recruiting and maintaining activists, including working with volunteers, volunteer leaders, and interns on implementation. Implement organizing plan, with ongoing phone banking, texting, and canvassing activities Identify and implement tabling, volunteer, and other visibility opportunities. Identify and cultivate “key contacts” in targeted communities. Mobilize activists for special purposes, including phone banking, canvassing, days of action, visibility events, legislative lobbying, house parties, etc.

Represents PPSE in the Community
Represent PPSE in coalitions, supporting coalition work and partner work In Savannah area Identify and cultivate relationships with community groups and activists.

External Communication
Create advocacy alerts for specific activist activities and events. In collaboration with the PPSE Communications Team, develop social media posts for upcoming events, organizing messaging, etc. Prepare reports for the Georgia Public Policy and Organizing Manager based on organizing work metrics. Work in collaboration with PPSE Education team in Savannah to identify and maintain community partnerships. 

Database Management
Maintain data integrity & privacy. Oversee maintenance of data in activist database. Monitor list growth; develop list growth goals.

Volunteer Management
Recruit, train, and manage volunteers, volunteer leaders, and interns. In collaboration with the Georgia Public Policy and Organizing Manager, create strategic work plans for interns and volunteer leads, organize their training, provide opportunities for growth up the ladder of engagement, and supervise their work. Manage constituency programs in the Savannah area such as Planned Parenthood Generation Action, Black Organizing Program, and Patient Advocacy Programs

Administrative Duties
Supply Georgia Public Policy and Organizing Manager with information for grant reports, board reports, and strategic plan updates. Track time spent and expenses as required. Coordinate training for volunteers and interns. Work in conjunction with other external facing departments, including development, education, and communications as needed. Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor level degree in political science, public health, or other related field (preferred). Experience as a community organizer not necessary but is preferred.

Experience
Knowledgeable about issues of sexuality education, reproductive health, and social justice. Experience preferred in political campaigns or community organizing, either volunteer or paid. Familiarity with the legislative process preferred. Familiarity with and commitment to Planned Parenthood Southeast mission.

Skills
Strong computer skills, including Google Suite and database management. Experience with Every Action/VAN and Hustle preferred. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, including writing skills. Ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of internal and external constituents. Ability to demonstrate public speaking and training skills preferred. Ability to gracefully manage multiple projects and to meet multiple deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Demands
Long hours at the computer or on the phone are necessary at times. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel within the community for programs required. Flexibility in work hours, as evenings/weekends during campaign and legislative season and weekend hours during busy seasons are necessary. Current Organizer hours are 35 hours per week.

English required, Spanish preferred.
