WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
The Youth Development Specialist & Educator reports to the Manager of Education & Training and is a member of the Education & Training department. The Youth Development Specialist & Educator is responsible for developing and facilitating sexuality education programming to youth, parents, and adults in a variety of settings including but not limited to school classrooms, school assemblies, afterschool programs and community centers primarily in Rhode Island, in addition to CT and online. The Youth Development Specialist & Educator is also responsible for coordinating and implementing program activities for the Students Teaching About Responsible Sexuality (STARS) peer education program, including the supervision of STARS peer educators. This position builds and maintains relationships with community-based organizations, schools, and other local and state agencies to cultivate an awareness of PPSNE services and promote educational programming.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises PPSNE STARS peer educators and implements the STARS program curriculum. Plans an annual STARS orientation and training for peer educators and facilitates bi-weekly STARS meetings. May chaperone STARS to conferences outside of PPSNE’s service area.
- Under the direction of the Manager of Education & Training and the Lead Youth Development Specialist & Educator, assists in the development and facilitation of other PPSNE youth programming such as Teen Clinic, Teen Night, and Beyond the Birds & Bees
- Develops and implements high-quality community education programs related to sexuality/sexual health to youth, parents, and adults in a variety of settings, including middle and high schools, afterschool programs, community centers and virtual programs delivered online
- Networks with other community-based organizations to cultivate an awareness and use of PPSNE services
- Responds to the educational needs of the region by acting as an informational resource for agencies in the area regarding issues involving sexuality education. Responds to community agencies in a timely manner and develops and maintains contacts in the community and local schools in order to market programming and provide services and resources
- In consultation with the Director, Education & Training, represents the agency on community and/or statewide committees that are aligned with or further the mission of PPSNE. Identifies and develops partnerships with other agencies related to PPSNE target populations that enhance the organization’s ability to satisfy its mission and strategic plan
- Collects and files data related to educational programs in a timely manner
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Passionate commitment to the mission, vision, and values of PPSNE
- College degree or at least three years professional experience in community education, youth development, and/or sexuality/sexual health
- Experience providing presentations and/or facilitating groups, ideally related to sexual and reproductive health and/or human sexuality
- Experience utilizing digital platforms, such as Google Classrooms or Zoom is strongly desired
- Comfortable discussing topics related to sexuality including sexual and reproductive health
- Strong ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with community partners and co-workers
- Demonstrated skills prioritizing and organizing workload with the ability to evaluate workflow systems
- Superb attention to detail
- Excellent customer service skills including recovery skills for when clients (internal or external) express dissatisfaction or problems arise
- Experience and comfort in working with diverse communities, specifically youth, Black, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ communities
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to enhance facilitation skills and knowledge of topics related to human sexuality and to improve service provision
- Demonstrated commitment and passion for equity and inclusion
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Must be able to travel to programs, events, and meetings as required
- Experience teaching or working in a middle or high school setting; desired but not required
- Bilingual Proficiency (Spanish/English); desired but not required

$43,322 - $72,204 a year
Salary Range; Min $43,322 Mid $57,763 Max $72,2024 and is based on full years of experience.
