POSITION SUMMARY:
The Advancement Officer is guided by an unshakeable commitment to donor centered fundraising. The Advancement Officer will amplify the work of a high-performing community engagement team by contributing to the development and execution of bespoke development and fundraising strategies which aim to create generational support for Planned Parenthood South Texas (PPST) and raise more than half of the organization’s operating budget annually. The Advancement Officer will be skilled at establishing and strengthening relationships with major donors, and will be enthusiastic about asking allies of all types to become donors to PPST.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Collaborates with VP for Community Engagement to develop long-term development goals and annual fundraising strategies. Sets standard of excellence for all development and fundraising work.
2. Helps coordinate, guide, and motivate a high-performing multi-disciplinary team to achieve long term development goals and realize increasing annual philanthropic support.
3. Builds relationships with board members, key supporters, and donors.
4. Manages a portfolio of top donors and prospective donors with responsibility to meet an annual personal fundraising goal.
5. Oversees strategic growth of donor pipeline with a view to creating robust and sustainable mid-level, major gifts, workplace and annual giving programs.
6. Develops and manages a Planned Giving program.
7. Serves on Community Engagement Committee, mobilizing the board in support of development and fundraising goals.
8. Participates in the national Planned Parenthood Development Officers Council. Collaborates with Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Texas Votes on joint fundraising projects.
9. Works closely with the VP for Community Engagement and the President & CEO on donor strategy and visits. Ensures both are informed about and engaged in all relevant development activities.
10. Prepares regular reports on progress towards goals. Collects and analyzes data, prepares regular reports that quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate and track effectiveness and impact of development & fundraising initiatives.
11. Represents PPST at community meetings, forums and events.
12. Establishes and maintains strong relationships with the people, institutions and organizations that have the potential to ensure the success of PPST’s development & fundraising efforts.
13. Keeps current with all guidelines, regulations and ethical practices related to fundraising.
14. Keeps current on the content of family planning and sexual health care, and service delivery at Planned Parenthood.
15. Maintains a current understanding of the limits of 501c3 activities in order to ensure that they execute all tasks in ways which are 501c3 permissible and don’t jeopardize the 501c3 charitable status of Planned Parenthood South Texas.
16. Attends meetings and serves on committees as assigned.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
18. Complies with the House Rules, which are a required part of the Organization’s orientation, training and performance standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Formal education is valued, but not required. A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of 6 years of successful fundraising experience, including experience securing financial support from major donors is required. Demonstrated ability to forge strong working relationships with major donors is required. Experience working in an organization that relies on philanthropy is essential. Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact with philanthropists, as well as to collaboratively work with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds is required. Project management experience and experience planning and executing events strongly preferred. Experience with reproductive rights, women’s health, social justice preferred.

- English/Spanish fluency is preferred.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed. Some evening and some Saturday hours will be required occasionally.
- Access to reliable, personal transportation with the ability to travel within the service delivery area.
- Ability to travel outside the service delivery area occasionally.
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, carry, push and pull 1-20 pounds occasionally.
- Highly sensitive and competent regarding issues of multiculturalism.
- Comfortable with issues of sexual and reproductive health.
- Strong commitment to the organization’s belief that clients are at the center of everything it does, and that donors must be respected as investors in a shared enterprise.
- Able and willing to work for an organization that supports a patient's right to make personal decisions regarding health care including their right to choose what option is best for them if faced with an unintended pregnancy.
