This is an excellent opportunity for a Vice President of Communications and Marketing (40 hrs. /wk.) at our Jackson Street Administration Office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Vice President of Communications and Marketing is responsible for leading a team of  communications specialists, public relations professionals, and partnering marketing/design firms that underpin the Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) brand. The role actively integrates earned media, paid media, a broad social media strategy, public policy campaigns, organizational advertising, events, and internal communications through the lens of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s diversity, equity and inclusion plan and vision to ensure all staff, patients, and community members experience a sense of belonging to the organization. The Vice President will develop, execute, and evaluate short and long-term culturally relevant marketing strategies, as well as take responsibility for setting metrics and sharing/refining results.  Further, the position will play a key leadership role to translate agency-wide strategic initiatives into actionable plans that create continuity in messaging, internally and externally.

Experienced communication leader, able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences and communities.
Demonstrated ability to convey a vision, develop strategy, lead on execution with high quality results.
Demonstrated ability to tell important and impactful stories that center around marginalized communities, women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, etc.
Demonstrated supervision and experience successfully cultivating a collaborative team environment. 
Experience managing branded communications, building brand awareness and driving key messages to identified target audiences.
The ability to communicate a range of topics impacting organizational brand and related audiences including; health care services, public health outcomes, development and educational programming, as well as public policy and legal proposals and impacts.
Experience managing crisis communications.
Demonstrated knowledge of digital and earned media strategies – that speak to wide range of communities.
Commitment to a person’s right to make personal decisions regarding health care, including abortion.
Ability to handle multiple projects such as - simultaneously support and grow a full-service team that services the entire agency, develop and implement a strategic plan, manage public relations, and a budget, and meet deadlines.
Experience using personal computers and Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Power Point preferably in MS 365.
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus - both written and spoken.

Physical demands of the position necessitate hearing, talking, handling and grasping regularly.  May require lifting up to 30 pounds. Specific vision conditions include close vision reading.  Requires the ability to operate a computer, telephone, fax, copy machine and calculator.
The position is generally performed in an office environment but involves frequent interruptions.  The noise level is generally low to quiet.  The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.  Reasonable accommodations, however, may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform said essential functions.
Evening and/or weekend hours may be necessary.
This position requires traveling statewide. Must have access to transportation. This may include having a valid driver’s license and auto insurance in accordance with agency liability standards and/or the ability to schedule transportation in accordance with the agency’s travel and reimbursement policies.   
Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field, and minimum of seven year’s experience in a public relations, communication, marketing, media  or related role or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered. Demonstrated experience with writing, editing, interfacing with graphic arts, news media relations and working with printers and other related vendors. Three years of supervisory experience and demonstrated team leadership required.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 


    • Integrated Strategic Communications:
    • Through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, commitment to patient, community and staff experience and the agency value of respecting and honoring all people, lead PPWI’s communication and marketing efforts to meet the department’s strategic goals.
    • Develops and oversees the execution of PPWI’s integrated internal and external communications and marketing plan supporting the organization’s strategic plan, brand identity and launch of new initiatives reflecting and utilizing all available mediums including public relations.
    • Work closely with the Chief Brand Strategy Officer to build and maintain brand alignment on all internal and external initiatives - that embody our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and belonging.
    • Work directly with PPFA Guidelines to build out brand standards to deploy across the organization.
    • Develop the brand playbook and Standard Operating Procedures for brand programming to drive consistency across all programming.
    • Ensure strategies and materials are culturally and linguistically inclusive for our staff, patients and communities. PPWI has a large Spanish language constituency in particular.

    • Responsible for decisions on branded materials distributed internally and externally.
    • Develop and execute or delegate special project communications in alignment with strategic goals.
    • Serve as a member of, or appoint a designee, to relevant agency committees and ad hoc project teams.
    • Serve as a member of agency Leadership Team.
    • Leads crisis communications team – when crisis or urgent communications arise, serve as a member of the full crisis response team and lead the communications strategy and execution.
    • Identify and listen to key stakeholder audiences to execute marketing strategies for patient acquisition and retention.  Including:
    • Collaboration with outside marketing communication partner(s).
    • Lead relationships with marketing firms, current relationships and any future business relationships.
    • Ensure goals, timelines, tactics are in place and a member of the PPWI team is assigned as a lead collaborator to advance plan and steward the relationship. 

    • Leverage market analysis, consumer, supporter, and patient demographics to inform initiatives and timelines with the lens of serving those most in need of and access to reproductive and sexual healthcare and information.  
    • In support of PPWI’s mission to empower all individuals to manage their sexual and reproductive health through patient services, education and advocacy, lead the production of publications, maintaining production schedules, lead distribution of communication materials, overseeing relationships with designers and/or printers. Ensure adherence to graphic standards of brand identity.
    • Develops, or oversees the development, of a wide variety of assignments including writing material on complex and technical subjects, as well as creative writing. 
    • Leads content production for website and digital media.

    • Collaboration:
    • Supports general agency communication needs and leads communication strategies and solutions.
    • Develops and directs an annual packaging of sponsorship opportunities for Planned Parenthood events.
    • Engages with Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) on strategic communications as an affiliate of PPFA.

    • Leadership:
    • Lead the ongoing development, collaboration and staffing and of an integrated Communications and Marketing team.
    • Develop a strategic communications model to reflect and provide support to a statewide community-centric approach.
    • Develop and manage clear processes for other departments to invoke the services of the communications team.
    • Develop, prepare, and coach agency spokespeople that reflect communities we serve including but not limited to Black, Indigenous, Asian American Pacific Islander, Latino/a/x, Spanish speaking, LGBTQ+ residing in communities of all sizes throughout Wisconsin. 
    • Attend and participate in events as needed.
    • Lead the management of outside agency communication and marketing partners.

    • Financial Management:
    • Develop and manage annual programming budget- in collaboration with finance. – including:
    • Reviews on a regular basis financial statements and reports, and makes changes in resource allocation and spending, to ensure resource stewardship and budget compliance.
