Position Summary:
Under general supervision, independently analyzes blueprints, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.  Provides guidance, training, and direction for less experienced estimating staff.

What You Will Do

    • Produce precise excavation & backfill estimates for various project types, including large commercial, industrial, high—tech, vertical high rise, utility, lighting, and health care facilities.
    • Work independently or under the direction of designated project lead.
    • Read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, tele data, security, fire alarm, audio visual plans, and specifications as they relate to the installation of underground infrastructure
    • Demonstrate an understanding of, and clearly communicate, estimated scope of work.
    • Develop project take-offs and equipment counts based upon the specifications and drawings.
    • Utilize technology tools to perform and document budgets, preferably BlueBeam, Accubid, and LiveCount.
    • Provide support and training of estimating processes, procedures and systems for junior estimators, interns, and other team members as necessary.
    • Contribute to and support value engineering exercises.
    • Contribute to scope letter content.
    • Participate in Estimating team and review meetings and clearly define your estimate work product.
    • Adhere to the PRIME Safety Program, complying with safety regulations, procedures and safe work practices.
    • Maintain a physical presence onsite and provide assistance to specific groups, managers and project management teams as needed.
    • Performs other duties as requested; duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

What You Need to be Successful

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Experience in commercial, industrial, high-tech, vertical high-rise, and health care industries
    • Experience with preparing, reviewing, and presenting complex estimates
    • Experience with the appropriate application of underground infrastructure construction methods, including excavation safety systems, directional drilling, and trenching methods
    • Ability to train and educate others on estimating procedures and software
    • Knowledge of structural, architectural, and mechanical documents and their impact on underground scope.
    • Knowledge of local city and county specifications
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, BlueBeam, Excel, Accubid, Smartsheet, and LiveCount.
    • Strong organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking, and communication skills.
    • Experience with delivery models: Plan & Spec, Design-Assist, and Design-Build.
    • Ability to grasp and follow existing estimating process and procedures.
    • Strong work ethic.

Supervisory Responsibilities

    • May supervise or coordinate the work of others who assist in specific assignments.

Special Requirements/Physical Demands/Working Conditions

    • Work is primarily performed in an office setting with minimal health or safety hazards.  Noise level and temperature is moderate.  Minimal lifting or climbing.  This position is expected to be fully in-person, onsite, with some travel not limited to, other offices, work sites and local business errands.  Requires operating office machines such as, but not limited to, computers, copiers, scanners, and phones.
$95,000 - $120,000 a year
