The Associate Director of Media Planning and Buying is responsible for the development and successful implementation of Priorities USA’s paid media programs. As a member of the Paid Media team, you will work closely with the creative, analytics and project management teams to develop media plans, execute ad buys, and optimize campaigns. Your role as a digital strategist will require you to work seamlessly with cross functional teams and stakeholders to manage project timelines, approvals and feedback, audience definition, relevant data and targeting, budgets, and overall campaign media and creative strategy - the end result being successful and effective paid campaigns. You will manage a team of media planners/buyers and an ad operations team, including an Ad Ops Manager.


    • Oversee the execution of all ad buys. You will manage the media planning and buying team to establish program needs for media plan development and program implementation. Day-to-day, this involves creating and maintaining a strategic media budget and bringing insights from creative, analytics, and polling teams into our media strategy.
    • Hire and manage a team of media planners/buyers, ad operations associates and an Ad Ops Manager. 
    • Manage your programmatic budgets and clearly communicate updates to the Paid Media Director and the Operations team. 
    • Work collaboratively with the creative and analytics team to implement a smooth project management process for your team. You’ll be responsible for ensuring your team’s work is careful, efficient, and accurate, and working with them on the systems we use for collaboration within our team and with others at the organization. 
    • Work with the analytics team to access relevant insights for campaign and creative development and optimization. You have a full understanding and accountability around the targeting and data decisions for your campaigns, and work in partnership with the analytics team for their expertise and guidance. 
    • Provide accurate compliance and reconciliation reporting for all paid media campaigns to the Operations team. You will oversee the accuracy and completeness of the spending information, and ensure that it is delivered in a timely manner to meet reporting deadlines. Getting this right is the single most important thing we do, so you must be detail-oriented and have experience with reporting for political paid media.
    • Stay abreast of the changing media landscape and recommend programmatic changes accordingly.
    • Maintain a level of flexibility in the specific expectations of this job as the Priorities program takes clearer shape.
    • Support the Priorities fellowship program through training and oversight as needed.


    • 2-3 cycles or 3-5 years of experience working within a paid media planning and buying team. Experience on a campaign or with a political organization, focused on persuasion and mobilization oriented paid media programs is preferred.
    • 1-2 cycles or 2-4 years of management experience.
    • The ability to adapt polling, data and other insights into a comprehensive media plan. A desire to work collaboratively and learn from with media consultants, pollsters, analysts, etc.
    • Experience managing a fast-changing, multi-faceted operational and programmatic budget.
    • Proficiency in excel and google sheets.
    • A detailed and curious understanding of the media landscape, including the desire to stay up to date on changes to policies both in the broader media space and political space. 
    • Ability to work collaboratively with others who might not always agree - you will be working cross functionally with several other members of the Priorities team with different experiences and perspectives and will need to communicate clearly and effectively to be successful. 
    • Strong problem solving skills and interpersonal skills; ability to respond to crises calmly and with poise.
This position will have the option of being remote or working out of Washington, DC where we have an office space for optional use. Occasional travel as needed. The salary for the position starts at  $125,000 commensurate with experience.
