Procon Consulting, a fast-growing professional services firm in McLean, VA with expertise in construction management (CM), construction-related technology, space planning, and facilities management, seeks an onsite Electrical Engineer in the Norfolk, VA area to prepare design documents and/or scopes of work for A/E services, Design/Build services and construction work. Provide decisive guidance and direction regarding the management of technical aspects of engineering related to building structures. Responsible for the overall management, in terms of technical quality, cost and schedule.
Procon Consulting operates as an owner's representative throughout the United States for government construction projects. We specialize in capital improvement projects in government construction & engineering. All candidates must meet the following skills and qualifications:
Qualifications and Skills
- BS in electrical engineering / electrical engineering technology or closely related discipline from an ABET accredited institution is required.
- Thorough understanding of design criteria such as National Electrical Code (NEC), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE) and other engineering standards and building codes.
- Registered communications distribution designer (RCDD) certification is preferred.
- Licensed in Virginia as a Professional Engineer, or licensed in another state and able to obtain Virginia licensure within 12 months of employment preferred.
- Extensive knowledge in running lighting calculations quickly and accurately for exterior and interior lighting projects.
- Preferred experience designing fire alarm systems.
- Considerable experience with facilities operation, maintenance and repair in an institutional setting.
- Extensive experience in design of electrical systems.
- 5 years of experience is required.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepares designs including engineering calculations, plans and specifications for minor construction and lighting projects in a timely and accurate manner.
- Responsible for design of electrical equipment, facilities and utilities.
- The electrical engineer is responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments and managing projects.
- Performs inspections of facilities and produces inspection reports and repair recommendations.
- Develops familiarity with regulations governing the implementation and operations of these systems.
- Manages construction projects to include planning, design and construction for Maintenance Reserve and other projects.
- Interface with customers to identify project requirements and coordinate work to minimize impact to building occupants.
- Ensures projects meet agreed scope of work and that consultants/ contractors provide services as identified in plans and specifications.
- Works with Procurement Services to contract for design and construction services.
$60,000 - $120,000 a year
