HL7 Interface Engineer (Remote/Hybrid)

 Opala is growing and seeking an experienced Interface Engineer to complement our team. This Engineer will be responsible for installing, configuring and deploying both standard and customized HL7 and similar interfaces to connect with disparate internal and external systems, which facilitates data exchange.   
A solid understanding of general networking, programming and database systems will ensure your success in this position.  The role collaborates with a variety of stakeholders (internal customer, external clients and 3rd party vendors) and may require working on call from time-to-time for system upgrades, maintenance, etc.

    • Build, implement, configure, and support real time and file-based interface processes, in a multi-system environment. 
    • Perform unit and integrated testing of interfaces. 
    • Promote new or updated interfaces from the dev/test environment into the production environment. 
    • Develop and maintain the documentation for each interface. 
    • Follow policies and procedures related to highly complex integrated interfaces.  
    • Review all applicable logs to identify data format or programming errors on the interface engine.  
    • Monitor the performance of the interface engine to ensure a stable and consistent production environment.  


    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. 
    • 2+ years overall experience analyzing, developing, implementing, troubleshooting and supporting production HL7 interfaces. 
    • Experience building and maintaining software workflows.  
    • Experience with healthcare specific interface engine products. 
    • Full SDLC and documentation experience.  
    • Demonstrated Python, JavaScript, HTML and/or CSS experience 
    • Experience working in an Agile environment 
    • Jira, Confluence & Microsoft Teams experience 
    • Commitment to fostering strong customer and team relationships. 
    • Demonstrated problem solving, troubleshooting, critical thinking and analytical skills. 
    • Ability to work under pressure while delivering a quality product.  

Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with API and/or Web services  
    • Experience with SQL and/or AWS 
    • Project Management experience 
    • General Networking exposure  
    • Experience with HL7v2, v3 CCDA, and FHIR messaging standards 
    • Experience with Smile CDR
