Position Summary:
Promesa Academy Charter School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Self-Contained Teacher to join our team. The Special Education Self-Contained Teacher will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with significant disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting. This role requires a commitment to individualized education and the ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Duties:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student.
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction that addresses students' academic, social, and emotional goals.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and instructional materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Classroom Management:
- Create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that promotes student learning and engagement.
- Implement behavior management strategies to support positive behavior and address challenging behaviors.
- Maintain a safe and orderly classroom by following school policies and procedures.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure the success of students with special needs.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and other professional meetings as required.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.
- Assessment and Data Collection:
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, IEP goals, and other required documentation.
- Use data to inform instructional decisions and to report on student progress.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Engage in continuous learning to improve instructional skills and effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience:
- Previous experience teaching students with special needs in a self-contained classroom setting.
- Experience in a charter school environment is a plus.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and implement effective IEPs.
- Proficient in using technology for instruction and data management.
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- Certifications:
- Texas Special Education Teaching Certificate required.
- Additional certifications related to special education are a plus.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
- Ability to respond quickly to student needs and emergencies.
$57,000 - $72,000 a year
