Position Summary:
Promesa Academy Charter School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Self-Contained Teacher to join our team. The Special Education Self-Contained Teacher will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with significant disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting. This role requires a commitment to individualized education and the ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

    • Instructional Duties:
    • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student.
    • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction that addresses students' academic, social, and emotional goals.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and instructional materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.

    • Classroom Management:
    • Create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that promotes student learning and engagement.
    • Implement behavior management strategies to support positive behavior and address challenging behaviors.
    • Maintain a safe and orderly classroom by following school policies and procedures.

    • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure the success of students with special needs.
    • Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and other professional meetings as required.
    • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.

    • Assessment and Data Collection:
    • Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, IEP goals, and other required documentation.
    • Use data to inform instructional decisions and to report on student progress.

    • Professional Development:
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
    • Engage in continuous learning to improve instructional skills and effectiveness.

Qualifications

    • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

    • Experience:
    • Previous experience teaching students with special needs in a self-contained classroom setting.
    • Experience in a charter school environment is a plus.

    • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to develop and implement effective IEPs.
    • Proficient in using technology for instruction and data management.
    • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.

    • Certifications:
    • Texas Special Education Teaching Certificate required.
    • Additional certifications related to special education are a plus.

    • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
    • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
    • Ability to respond quickly to student needs and emergencies.
$57,000 - $72,000 a year
