Promise Robotics is a rapidly growing venture-backed technology startup with a mission to help the building industry to harness automation toward producing more affordable and sustainable buildings. Our world-class team combines AI, Industrialized Robotics, and construction under one roof to develop the most advanced robotic products for the construction of highly efficient and sustainable buildings.
We are looking for a Structural Designer to plan, design, and detail engineered floor systems for residential and light commercial construction. This includes creating and modifying layout drawings, calculations, and specifications using Javelin and MiTek software. The role requires working closely with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure the floor systems meet code requirements, structural integrity, and project goals.
You might be a good fit if you:
- Have a passion for leading industry-changing solutions with significant social, economic, and environmental impact
- Enjoy building not only the technology but also high-performing teams and companies
- Are committed to continuous learning at the intersection of several industries
What you'll do:
- Design and draft engineered floor systems
- Develop and complete layout drawings of engineered floor systems using Javelin or MiTek software.
- Interpret and integrate architectural and structural plans into accurate floor system designs for estimating and manufacturing.
- Collaborate with modelling teams, engineers, architects, and production teams to ensure designs align with contract requirements and structural intent.
- Prepare and revise schematic diagrams, framing layouts, and material take-offs for manufacturing and construction use.
- Perform job site visits to verify field conditions and provide onsite design support when necessary.
- Review and optimize designs to minimize waste and ensure efficient use of materials.
- Establish and maintain design and production schedules in coordination with project managers.
- Provide technical support and design-related insights throughout the lifecycle of the project.
- Create modification work orders or floor system repairs as needed.
- Ensure designs meet applicable building codes, engineering principles, and client specifications.
- Document design iterations and maintain records for quality assurance and future reference.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Diploma in Architectural, Civil, or Construction Engineering Technology, or a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in engineered wood floor system design.
- Proven experience with Javelin and MiTek software for layout and engineering of floor systems.
- Strong understanding of structural design principles, including load paths, bearing points, and deflection limits.
- Solid knowledge of wood products, framing techniques, and floor system construction methods.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from architectural, structural, and shop drawings.
- Experience with construction site coordination and field troubleshooting is an asset.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for effective coordination with teams and clients.
- Advanced proficiency in Javelin, MiTek, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in technical design.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently as needed.
- Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and shifting priorities.
- Ability to travel for site visits or client meetings as needed
