We’re seeking an Accounting Manager to join our team. 
Proper is seeking an Accounting Manager who will lead and manage a team of 20+ individual contributors, ensuring the delivery of top-notch accounting services to property managers and real estate developers in the US. This role requires a blend of technical accounting expertise, strong leadership skills, a data-driven approach to performance management, and a commitment to quality, accuracy, and timeliness in customer service delivery. 

The ideal candidate will leverage Lean Six Sigma methodologies to optimize team operations and drive continuous improvement, utilizing data analytics to monitor and enhance team performance and customer satisfaction.

Proper is a San Francisco based tech startup. This position would be based remotely in Colombia. 

Department: Accounting Operations
The accounting department is the engine of the company, providing property management accounting services to our customers. They perform everyday accounting functions like payables and receivables, and monthly processes that flow into final financial statements for customers.

Key Responsibilities

    • Leadership & Team Management: Oversee a team of 20+ accounting professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous development. Implement effective strategies to transform low performers into high achievers and further develop mid to high performers.
    • Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement: Employ Lean Six Sigma principles to streamline processes, eliminate waste, and enhance operational efficiency. Initiate and lead projects focused on process improvement, leveraging data to inform decision-making and drive change.
    • Data-Driven Performance Management: Utilize advanced data analytics to monitor team performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement performance management strategies to ensure high quality, accuracy, and timeliness in service delivery.
    • Financial Acumen & P&L Ownership: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of financial management principles, taking ownership of the team's P&L. Develop and execute strategies to optimize resources, reduce costs, and improve gross margins.
    • Customer Service Excellence: Maintain strong relationships with a diverse clientele, ensuring their needs are met with the highest standard of service. Utilize feedback and performance data to continuously enhance service delivery.

Required Skills

    • Leadership & Team Management: Proven experience managing teams of 20+ individual contributors in a dynamic environment.
    • Financial Management: Solid understanding of financial principles, including P&L management, with a track record of achieving financial goals.
    • Lean Six Sigma: Certification or demonstrated experience applying Lean Six Sigma methodologies to optimize operations.
    • Data Analytics & Performance Management: Strong ability in using data to drive decision-making and performance improvement.
    • Customer Service: Experience managing diverse customer accounts, with a focus on delivering high-quality, accurate, and timely services.

Nice to Have Skills

    • Experience with dashboard and performance management tools.
    • Background in shared services, manufacturing, or BPO settings.
    • Demonstrated success in mentoring and career development.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a similar degree.
    • 4+ years of experience managing a team of 20+
    • 4+ years of experience managing 10+ clients simultaneously.
    • Advanced English 
    • Working knowledge of US GAAP (or foreign equivalent) and financial statement presentation
    • Detail-oriented and able to effectively complete tasks.
    • Extensive experience working in a large accounting role, working as a manager/ supervisor within a finance/accounting department. 
    • Proven track record of experience in supervising, leading, and coaching a team.
    • Excellent MS-office or Google Suite experience
    • Advanced English
