The Senior Developer, Policy Administration System works to diagnose, isolate and debug conversion and software problems in order to provide resolutions in a fast-paced environment with critical deadlines. They will participate in efforts to design and build reusable processes that are well documented and transferable to future conversion projects. They'll work closely with the Business Analysts to gather requirements for internal and external system interfaces to ensure business needs and expectations are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.  This Developer will also work to modify insurance administration systems to meet business requirements. May also be responsible for managing work within a project.  

Responsibilities

    • Research, compiles, and evaluates information used in the development and maintenance of very large and complex systems and processes to satisfy business needs.
    • Designs very large and complex systems and/or support processes that meet customer requirements while effectively interacting with existing systems/support processes.
    • Constructs, modifies, and tests very large and complex system changes.
    • Develops and tests processes used to convert data from system to system.
    • Quickly diagnoses very complex problems; determines and implements quality solutions in a timely fashion.
    • Provides thorough and complete documentation for all programming changes and enhancements.
    • Understands the business needs of the customer and provides quality customer support by providing appropriate communication, anticipating customer needs and/or problems, and understanding the broad impact of changes on all customer processes.
    • Provides appropriate solutions and proactively suggests process improvements.
    • Manages individual tasks on projects to ensure that all tasks are delivered according to the project plan.
    • Is considered 'a top expert' by peers in one or more important areas of expertise, such as, a programming language, computer system, database, etc. Provides an appropriate level of feedback to peers, support and interface areas, and management. 

Experience/Skills Required:

    • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in management information services, computer science, math or related field and minimum 10 years of applicable work experience with life insurance and annuity administration systems with strong focus in policy administration and new business. 
    • In lieu of a Bachelor's, employer will accept a master’s degree in management information services, Computer Science, Math or related field and minimum 8 years of applicable work experience with Annuity Systems to include extensive experience maintaining and enhancing annuity administration systems with strong focus in policy administration and new business.
    • Extensive annuity and life insurance product knowledge is also required, to include an in-depth functional processing understanding of Variable Annuities, Fixed Annuities, Variable Universal Life, Traditional Life, Universal Life, Indexed products, and Payouts. 
    • Minimum 8 years of experience coding in DXC’s wMA (Wealth Management Accelerator), Vantage Administration system, Lifecomm, Cyberlife, or LIDP’s Administrator System (ADMI), is required in order to begin making an immediate contribution in a fast-paced work environment. 
    • Minimum 8 years of experience and extensive knowledge and expertise of COBOL, Assembler, or object oriented on life insurance admin systems
    • Minimum 5 years of experience performing complex life insurance administration system development for enhancements, support, conversions, and/or maintenance. 
    • Minimum 5 years of experience with policy administration ancillary systems and interfaces, such as the generation of policy owner statements and transactional confirmations. 
    • Minimum 5 years debugging and working to modify life insurance administration systems.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience working with database and mainframe data structures including VSAM, ISAM, Oracle, DB2, SQL, etc.
    • Proven experience in Java development and other object-oriented programming languages. 
    • Must be able to write complex SQL statements to retrieve and update data in highly normalized databases.
    • Must have familiarity with ADMI’s, wMA, and administration system data structures and access methods.  
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $81,000 to $102,450. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees. 

This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and company performance.
