Join our team as a 3DP Manufacturing Engineer II!
This is an onsite role in Raleigh, NC.
The Manufacturing Engineer II is responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
What you'll do:
- Lead teams to develop and improve manufacturing processes, focusing on cost savings and expanded capabilities through data analysis and brainstorming. Design tooling strategies for new processes.
- Ensure manufacturing processes meet quality goals, resolve compliance issues, and lead/support corrective actions. Train employees on new processes as needed.
- Research, design, and develop manufacturing processes, including production flow and equipment. Build and test prototype equipment and tooling.
- Analyze products/processes for cost, quality, and efficiency enhancements.
- Participate in or lead lean manufacturing initiatives and conduct root cause analysis to implement corrective actions.
- Independently evaluate, select, and adapt techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Work on major or multiple moderate scope projects.
- Analyze and leverage statistical data independently.
- Conduct lean activities with guidance, including kaizen and 5S events.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in one area, with working knowledge in others. Document technical accomplishments within the department.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- 3+ years of professional engineering experience preferably in 3DP
- Advanced communication skills for conveying complex technical information and presenting data effectively
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, familiar with tools like FMEA, Pareto, and Cause & Effect diagrams
- Detail-oriented with experience in managing project documents and ensuring quality content
- Initiative-driven, able to work independently and in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
- Strong time management skills to handle projects within set deliverables and time frames
- Ability to address immediate issues while keeping an eye on future developments
Bonus Points for:
- Familiarity with Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques
- Proficiency in CAD software and knowledge of machining and molding technology
- Background in machining or process-related operations
- Experience in a Continuous Improvement environment

$80,000 - $106,700 a year
Protolabs offers a competitive total rewards package, and compensation mix vary based on position, such as base wage, as well as other earnings including incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, job function, work experience, specialized skills, training, education, and certifications.

Physical Demands:

Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
