The Director of Account Management is responsible for overseeing the account management team, ensuring high-quality service, and driving strategic initiatives that directly enhance client satisfaction and business growth. This role involves developing strong relationships with key clients, leading a team of account managers, and working cross-functionally to ensure exceptional performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Direct and manage account management team to achieve performance targets by providing guidance, support, and professional development
- Organize and drive overall team assignments, timelines, and initiatives
- Influence and lead innovation and change management to increase team efficiency, quality, and project profit margins
- Analyze and report team performance metrics
- Ensure timely, successful, and high-quality delivery of clinical projects across the team
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key clients
- Oversee team to ensure that project budgets and change orders are managed effectively to meet contractual and scope-of-work obligations
- Identify potential risks, influence project teams, and develop mitigation plans while fostering client satisfaction
- Develop and foster a deep understanding of clients' business goals, strategies, and industry trends to provide tailored solutions and insights
- Ensure account management team achieves or exceeds New Business Achieved (NBA), project gross margin, and revenue goals by identifying upsell/cross-sell opportunities
- Identify opportunities for account growth and drive initiatives to expand services and product offerings
- Work closely with sales team to support new business development and client acquisition efforts
- Lead strategic development of department budgets, goals, KPIs
- Develop and maintain processes and best practices for account management activities
- Create accurate and value-add project budget reports that include utilization, forecasting, and resource data
- Collaborate with clinical operations and resource management to adequately staff projects, including forecasting needs, screening of staff, and coordinating interviews with clients
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., sales, marketing, finance, HR) to ensure a cohesive approach to account management
- Accountable for budget and progress reports to executive management team
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Exceptional customer service skills are required
- Proven track record of managing and growing key accounts
- Strong leadership skills and team management skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze data and make strategic decisions
- Highly evolved budget management, risk management, and business intelligence skills
- Insightful, decisive, proactive, and solutions-oriented
- Familiarity with clinical research organizations, medical and pharmaceutical industry, and related terminology and practices
- Proven excellence in professional skills including organization, prioritization, presentation, discretion, and accuracy
- High proficiency in CRM and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to travel as needed
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree with at least ten (10) years’ experience in the clinical research industry
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in account and project management, sales, or a related field, with at least three (3) years in a direct management role
- Previous experience in project management, budget and resource management, vendor contract management, or business development experience at a clinical research organization preferred

$170,000 - $190,000 a year
