Department Manager – Fire & Life Safety Systems
Location: Bend, Oregon
Reports To: Operations Manager / Regional General Manager

Job Summary
We are looking for a Department Manager to lead our Fire & Life Safety Systems team based in Bend, Oregon. This role oversees departmental operations focused on Fire Sprinkler Systems, Suppression Systems, and Portable equipment. The ideal candidate will drive operational performance and business growth while maintaining high levels of team engagement and customer satisfaction. You’ll be responsible for leading a skilled field team, developing processes, and achieving financial and performance targets.

Job Duties
-In partnership with the Operations Manager, own revenue, margins, and operating expenses or expenditure in your assigned business unit to achieve monthly and annual business plan projections and forecasts.
-Train field technicians on codes, equipment, client service best practices, and procedures for efficient and effective production.
-Foster exchanges of ideas and provide cross-team learning opportunities; inspire and motivate employees to perform at their best through positive encouragement.
-Review employee time sheets for accuracy and submit timecards on a timely basis to meet payroll deadlines.
-Ensure that all employees understand OSHA and PSI’s safety policies.
-Ensure vehicles are serviced regularly and applicable logs are submitted monthly.
-Work with Manager to identify, interview, and hire new team members.
-Conduct constructive and timely annual performance reviews for direct reports.
-Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
-Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Mentor and guide your department's field technicians and support staff through daily touchpoints, performance reviews, one-on-ones, and skill development initiatives.
Performance Management: Ensure team KPIs for revenue, margins, utilization, quality, and scheduling are consistently met or exceeded.
Field Engagement: Participate in site visits to coach technicians, validate quality, and ensure compliance with safety and service standards.
Culture & Collaboration: Promote a culture of positivity, teamwork, and accountability across both field and office staff, ensuring alignment with PSI values.
Operational Oversight: In collaboration with the Operations Manager, manage departmental revenue, expenditures, and operating margins to achieve business plan goals.
Process Improvement: Continuously identify opportunities to improve internal workflows, operational efficiency, and customer experience.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
-High School diploma or equivalent; college degree in related field preferred
-5–7 years’ experience in fire life safety required
-1–2 years’ experience in a supervisory role leading a team of technicians preferred

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations
-Valid state-issued driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
-Must have the ability to obtain all required licensing within 90 days of hire

Working Conditions
-Regular exposure to mechanical environments and outdoor weather conditions
-Occasional exposure to heights, chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration
-Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted
